The Boutokaan Kiribati Moa Party (BKM) is a political party in Kiribati from the merger of the Kiribati First Party and Boutokaan te Koaua in 2020. History The party was established in May 2020, after the merger of the Pillars of Truth with the Kiribati First Party of Banuera Berina and twelve other MPs which left the Tobwaan Kiribati Party following the government's decision to cut diplomatic ties with Taiwan in favor of closer relations with China. Tessie Lambourne
Tessie Eria Lambourne (born 14 July 1971 in the Gilbert and Ellice Islands) is an I-Kiribati civil servant, diplomat and politician. She has been a member of the Maneaba ni Maungatabu (Parliament) since April 2020. She was formerly Kiribati's Ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan) from June 2018 to September 2019 and Secretary to the Cabinet, the highest position in Kiribati's civil service, from August 2016 until June 2018. Personal life Lambourne was educated at the University of Auckland in New Zealand, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Political Studies) in 1994; she subsequently received a master's degree in International Law and Politics from the University of Canterbury in 2007. Boutokaan Te Koaua
Pillars of Truth ( gil, Boutokaan te Koaua; BK or BTK) was a political party in Kiribati, until 2020 when it merged with the Kiribati First Party to create the Boutokaan Kiribati Moa Party. The party was created through a split in the National Progressive Party, which was the first party to rule after Independence in 1979. In the 2003 presidential elections, its candidate Anote Tong won 47.4% and was elected president. In the legislative elections of two months earlier, the party won 16 of 41 elected seats. In 22 August and 30 August 2007 House of Assembly of Kiribati elections, the party won 18 seats. On 17 October 2007, Anote Tong was re-elected as president by a large majority. Banuera Berina (born 3 November 1962 in Beru) is a lawyer and a politician from Kiribati, representing Kuria in the House of Assembly. He was the opposition candidate in the 2020 Kiribati presidential election. Berina was a private lawyer since 1992. In May 2003, Berina was first elected to Parliament for the district of South Tarawa and eventually rose to become the chairman of the ruling Tobwaan Kiribati Party.
