André-Charles Boulle (11 November 164229 February 1732), ''le joailler du meuble'' (the "furniture jeweller"), became the most famous French cabinetmaker and the preeminent artist in the field of marquetry, also known as "inlay". Boulle was "the most remarkable of all French cabinetmakers". Jean-Baptiste Colbert (29 August 1619 – 6 September 1683) recommended him to Louis XIV of France, the "Sun King" (), as "the most skilled craftsman in his profession". Over the centuries since his death, his name and that of his family has become associated with the art he perfected, the inlay of tortoiseshell, brass and pewter into ebony. It has become known as '' Boulle Work'', and the École Boulle (founded in 1886), a college of fine arts and crafts and applied arts in Paris, continues today to bear testimony to his enduring art, the art of inlay. Jean-Raymond Boulle, COR (born 10 October 1950) is a Monaco-based Mauritian businessman, the founder of four publicly traded companies with deposits of nickel, cobalt, copper, zinc, titanium and diamonds. Career Early career Boulle worked for the De Beers Diamond Trading Company (DTC) for ten years, in Zaire, Sierra Leone and Antwerp, Belgium, and then established Boulle Inc. in Dallas, Texas. In 1984 he began exploring for diamonds, first in Minnesota, then in Arkansas. In 1987 he formed Arkansas Diamond Development Co., to carry out exploration work on the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas. He claimed there were perhaps $5 billion worth of diamonds there, but in 1996 exploration work was halted as it was found to be not worth mining. Pierre François Marie Louis Boulle (20 February 1912 – 30 January 1994) was a French novelist best known for two works, ''The Bridge over the River Kwai'' (1952) and ''Planet of the Apes (novel), Planet of the Apes'' (1963), that were both made into award-winning films. Boulle was an engineer serving as a secret agent with the Free French in Singapore, when he was captured and subjected to two years' forced labour. He used these experiences in ''The Bridge over the River Kwai'', about the notorious Death Railway, which became an international bestseller. The film, named ''The Bridge on the River Kwai'', by David Lean won seven Oscars, and Boulle was credited with writing the screenplay, because its two actual screenwriters had been Hollywood blacklist, blacklisted. Mark Boulle (born 21 April 1979) is an independent musician and recording artist from the Gold Coast, Australia. As of January 2016 he has released eight albums (one of which has since been withdrawn), six of them with his band, the Haba Dudes.
