Alice Boughton
Alice Boughton (14 May 1866 – 21 June 1943) was an early 20th-century American photographer known for her photographs of many literary and theatrical figures of her time. She was a Fellow of Alfred Stieglitz's Photo-Secession, a circle of photographers whose artistic efforts succeeded in raising photography to a fine art form. Life Alice Boughton was born in Brooklyn, New York, on 14 May 1866. Her parents were Frances Ayres and William H. Boughton, a lawyer in New York. She studied photography and became a well known portrait photographer in New York by the early 1900s. Outside of her art production she was active in Feminist and Socialist causes utilizing photography as a form of personal expression. Being active in the Feminist scene Alice was a prominent member of the movement known as New Woman. Chauncey Boughton
Chauncey Boughton (January 21, 1805 – April 3, 1895) was an American physician and politician from New York. Life Boughton was born on January 21, 1805, in Nassau, New York, the son of John Boughton and Elizabeth Roberts. Boughton initially considered a career in law, but when he was seventeen he began studying medicine in the Fairfield Medical College. He began practicing medicine when he was twenty-one, initially practicing in Mechanicville. He moved to Halfmoon shortly afterwards and practiced medicine with his brother-in-law Dr. William Shaw. He attended lectures in New York City and Philadelphia in 1833, returning home and resuming his practice later that year. Until 1845, he spent nearly twenty years active in military affairs, serving as sergeant, major, lieutenant colonel, and colonel for the 144th Regiment of Infantry. Clive Boughton (born 4 August 1956) is an Australian computer science professor residing in Canberra, in the Australian Capital Territory. He is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at the Australian National University. He is the managing director of Software Improvements Pty Ltd. Professional career Before completing his BSc Boughton undertook both research (at ARRB Group Ltd.) and industrial practice (at USL as Lab Manager) concerning the physical properties of soils. George Henry Boughton
George Henry Boughton (4 December 1833 – 19 January 1905) was an Anglo-American landscape and genre painter, illustrator and writer. Life and work Boughton was born in Norwich in Norfolk, England, the son of farmer William Boughton. The family immigrated to the United States in 1835, and he grew up in Albany, New York where he started his career as a self-taught artist. At this early stage he was influenced by the artists of the Hudson River School. By the age of 19 he was recognised as a landscape painter and opened his first studio in 1852. In 1853, the American Art Union purchased one of his early pictures which financed six months of studying art in England. He concluded this period of his training with a sketching tour of the Lake District, Scotland and Ireland. After coming back to the USA, Boughton exhibited his works in Washington, D.C. and New York, but in the late 1850s he finally made a decision to move to Europe. Christina Joyance Boughton (known as Joy) (14 June 1913 – 1963) was an English oboist and the daughter of composer Rutland Boughton and artist Christina Walshe. She died in 1963 in tragic circumstances.. She was taught oboe by Léon Goossens and attended the Royal College of Music from 1929 to 1937 at which, for a short while before her death, she was a professor of Oboe.
