Boucherville
Boucherville is a city in the Montérégie region in Quebec, Canada. It is a suburb of Montreal on the South Shore (Montreal), South shore of the Saint Lawrence River. Boucherville is part of both the urban agglomeration of Longueuil and Greater Montreal, Montreal Metropolitan Community regional government. History Early history Boucherville was founded as a Seigneurial system of New France, seigneurial parish in 1667 by Pierre Boucher, for whom the city was later named. Pierre Boucher came from Mortagne-au-Perche, Normandy, France. After having lived in Quebec City and Trois-Rivières, Boucher moved to the Percées Islands by the southern shores of Saint Lawrence River, where he founded Boucherville. Pierre Boucher de Boucherville (born Pierre Boucher; 1 August 162219 April 1717) was a French settler, soldier, officer, naturalist, official, governor, and ennobled aristocrat in Nouvelle-France or New France (in what is now Canada). Early life Pierre emigrated from France to New France in 1634 with his father, Gaspard Boucher, a carpenter. At the age of 18, he entered the services of the Jesuits and spent four years with the Huron missions at Georgian Bay (see Sainte-Marie among the Hurons). He spoke fluent Iroquoian languages, of which Huron is a dialect. From Corporal to Governor In 1641, Governor Charles Huault de Montmagny took him into his service as a soldier in the garrison of Quebec city, but especially as an interpreter and agent to the Indian tribes due to his familiarity with the Huron dialect. It encompasses all the boroughs that were merged into the previous city of Longueuil and still retains the same area as that mega-city. Montarville is a provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It consists of the municipalities of Boucherville and Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, both of which are part of the urban agglomeration of Longueuil. Montérégie () is an administrative region in the southwest part of Quebec.
