Boston Sculptors Gallery
The Boston Sculptors Gallery is a cooperative sculpture gallery in Boston, Massachusetts. Unlike a traditional commercial gallery, Boston Sculptors Gallery is owned and operated by local, New England artists and exhibits contemporary sculpture in a range of mediums. There are currently over 35 exhibiting sculptors in the group. Each month, two of these artists hold concurrent solo shows in the gallery. A chapter member of the International Sculpture Center, Almitra Stanley currently directs Boston Sculptors Gallery. History Founded in 1992, The Boston Sculptors Gallery is the creation of two local Boston artists Joyce McDaniel and Murray Dewart whom in 1992 joined 17 other artists to form a cooperative exhibition space. Sculpture is the branch of the visual arts that operates in three dimensions. Sculpture is the three-dimensional art work which is physically presented in the dimensions of height, width and depth. International Sculpture Center
The International Sculpture Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1960 by Elden Tefft and James A. Sterritt at the University of Kansas. It is currently located on the old New Jersey Fairground in Hamilton, New Jersey Its goal is to advance the creation and understanding of sculpture and its unique, vital contribution to society. Murray Dewart
Murray Dewart (born September 19, 1947) is an American sculptor best known for his large gate-like structures in granite and bronze. Dewart's sculptures are often created for site-specific locations and installed in parks and gardens. His work is in more than thirty museums and public collections around the world. He is the editor of the Random House anthology ''Poems About Sculpture''. Early life and education Dewart was born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, in 1947. His father, grandfather and great-grandfather were Protestant clergymen. Raised in Boston, Dewart attended the Dexter School, Milton Academy and Harvard College, where he studied sculpture with William Reimann. After graduating with honors in 1970, Dewart lived in rural Vermont and New Hampshire for seven years before returning to Boston. SoWa
The SoWa Art & Design District (South of Washington) in the South End of Boston, Massachusetts, USA, is a community of artist studios, contemporary art galleries, boutiques, design showrooms, and restaurants. Once an area of neglected warehouses, the SoWa Art & Design District has experienced a dramatic rebirth. It features the SoWa Open Market, the SoWa Vintage Market, and a residential neighborhood which has become fashionable. Originally derived from a shortening of "South of Washington", SoWa spans the area from East Brookline Street to East Berkeley Street and from Shawmut Avenue to Albany Street.
