Bortz (chieftain)
Bortz, also Boricius ( hu, Borc), was a Cuman chieftain in the 13th century. He voluntarily converted to Christianity in 1227, acknowledging the suzerainty of the Kingdom of Hungary. Within a year, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cumania was established in Bortz's land along the river Siret in present-day Romania. Name His name appears in various forms in contemporary records. A papal letter from 1227 refers to him as Bortz, in addition to certain documents of the Dominican Order, while the chronicle of Emo of Friesland calls him Boricius. It is widely regarded that he is identical with that Begovars, who led the Cumans that helped Duke Béla with his attack on the Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia in 1229 or 1230, according to the Galician–Volhynian Chronicle. Analia Bortz
Analia Bortz (born February 1967) is a medical doctor with postdoctoral studies in bioethics. She became the first female Latin American rabbi when she was ordained in Jerusalem at the Seminario Rabinico Latinoamericano in 1994. In 2003, she and her husband, Rabbi Mario Karpuj, founded Congregation Or Hadash in Sandy Springs, Georgia. In 2023 Rabbi Dr. Bortz became the Founding co-Director at the Center for Ethics at the Vatican and the University Abarvanel- Seminario Rabinico LatinoAmericano. Chris Bortz (born September 10, 1973) is a politician from Cincinnati, Ohio. He was elected to the Cincinnati City Council in 2005 as a member of the Charter Party. Because the Charter Party is not recognized by the state of Ohio as an official party, Bortz is a registered Republican. He currently serves as the chair of the council's Strategic Growth Committee. Bortz was born in Cincinnati and attended Cincinnati Country Day School for high school; he attended Tufts University for his undergraduate education, and received a J.D. from the University of Arizona. Cindy Bortz-Gould is an American former figure skater. She is the 1987 World Junior Figure Skating champion. Biography Bortz was born and raised in Tarzana, California, and is Jewish. She began skating at eight years old, and entered her first competition a year later. In 1985 she came in second in the Novice Level at the 1985 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. At age 14, 4-foot-8-inches tall and weighing 80 pounds, Bortz won the Junior Ladies gold medal at the 1986 U.S. National Figure Skating Championships, beating silver medalist Susanne Becher of West Germany. During the competition she became the first junior woman to successfully perform the difficult Triple Lutz. She then came in second to Jill Trenary at the U.S. Olympic Sports Festival. Mark Steven Bortz (born February 12, 1961) is an American former professional football player who was a guard in the National Football League (NFL). He attended the University of Iowa and was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1983. Walter Michael Bortz II (March 20, 1930 – August 5, 2023) was an American physician and author who taught medicine at Stanford University. He conducted research on aging and promoted the possibility of a 100-year lifespan. Education Bortz attended the Episcopal Academy of Philadelphia in 1947. He graduated from Williams College with a B.A. cum laude in 1951 and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1955.
