Josep Borrell
Josep Borrell Fontelles (; born 24 April 1947) is a Spanish politician serving as High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy since 1 December 2019. A member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), he served as President of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2007 and as Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation in the Government of Spain from 2018 to 2019. Born and raised in the Catalan village of La Pobla de Segur, Borrell is an aeronautical engineer and economist by training as well as professor of mathematics. Jonathan Edward Borrell (born 4 April 1980) is an English guitarist and singer, currently the frontman of the rock band Razorlight. Early life and career Borrell was born in Sutton, London. His father, New Zealand-born John Borrell, was a war correspondent; his mother was a primary school teacher in Tottenham. His parents divorced when he was young. Borrell lived at Highgate, where he attended Highgate School. He moved to Camden School for Girls for sixth form. Borrell was involved in music and the Camden scene while still at school. At 17 he played bass guitar in a band called Violet alongside Paul Rose, aka dubstep pioneer Scuba, who regularly played gigs on the Camden circuit. The band recorded an EP and started to gain some recognition before splitting acrimoniously live on stage at Dublin Castle in late '97 . Alfons Borrell i Palazón (3 June 1931 – 6 October 2020) was a Spanish abstract painter. Life Alfons Borrell was born in Barcelona in 1931. At the age of nine, his family moved to Sabadell. After several casual jobs in 1950 he completed his military service in Port de Pollença (Mallorca), where he attended the workshop of Hermen Anglada Camarasa. Back in Sabadell in 1952, he worked in the family jewelry store. In Barcelona, he took two free courses in life drawing at the Escola de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi drawing school, where in 1953 he met the woman who would become his wife, Rosa. In 1955 Borrell evolved from the figurative to abstract painting. Borrell ( la, Burrellus; died 24 February 1018) was the bishop of Vic from 1010 until 1017. He was elected to replace Arnulf, who had died in battle against the Córdobans, and his episcopate coincided with the renewed colonisation of the west of Catalonia. After succeeding to the episcopal throne in 1010, Borrell confirmed that the tithes from the fortified settlement (''castrum'') of Gurb belonged to the lord of the place, Berenguer, who had been granted them by Bishop Arnulf when he succeeded his father, Sendred. Berenguer was also a canon of the cathedral of Vic. In 1014 he was elected bishop of Elne. This resulted in a major dispute between Vic and Elne, as Borrell tried to collect the tithes of Gurb and seized Berenguer's family's property. Federico Borrell García (January 3, 1912 – September 5, 1936) was a Second Spanish Republic, Spanish Republican and Iberian Federation of Anarchist Youth, anarchist militiaman during the Spanish Civil War, commonly thought to be the subject in the famous Robert Capa photo ''The Falling Soldier''. Henry Perigal Borrell (1795, London – 2 October 1851, Smyrna) was a British numismatist. He was the son of John Henry Borrell (anglicised from Borel), a London clockmaker from Couvet, and Kitty Borrell (née Howe). Having learned the numismatics trade in London, he traveled to the Ottoman Empire and set up home and shop in Smyrna as a trader, from 1818 right up until his death. Two years after his arrival, in 1820, he married Emelia Boddington in Smyrna. In the 1820s, he obtained an inscription from Aphrodisias, a copy of which he sent to August Boeckh. In 1838 he met the 6th Duke of Devonshire at Smyrna and sold him the Chatsworth Head (found at Tamassos). Via the Bank of England, Borrell also supplied coins to the British Museum. Ramon Borrell ( ca, Ramon Borrell, es, Ramón Borrell; 972–1017) was count of Barcelona, Girona and Ausona from 992. The County of Osona, also Ausona ( ca, Comtat d'Osona, ; la, Comitatus Ausonae), was one of the Catalan counties of the ''Marca Hispanica'' in the Early and High Middle Ages. It was based around the capital city of Vic (''Vicus'') and the corresponding diocese, whose territory was roughly the current ''comarca'' of Osona. The ancient diocese of Osona was sacked by the Arabs in the mid eighth century (c. 750–755).
