Borough Tube Station
Borough is a London Underground station in the Borough area of the London Borough of Southwark in central London. It is on the Bank branch of the Northern line between Elephant & Castle and London Bridge stations. It is in Travelcard Zone 1. The station entrance is in Borough High Street (part of the A3), on the corner of Marshalsea Road. The A2 terminates opposite it. History The station was opened on 18 December 1890 as part of the first successful deep-level tube railway, the City and South London Railway (C&SLR), and was rebuilt in the 1920s when the tunnels were enlarged. Although little of the original surface building remains at Borough, it originally bore a close resemblance to Kennington station. These similarities extended to the layout below ground, although here it is Kennington that no longer retains the original design. King William Street Tube Station
King William Street was the original but short-lived northern terminus of the City and South London Railway (C&SLR), the first successful deep-level underground railway in London and one of the component parts of the London Underground's Northern line. It was located in the City of London, on King William Street, just south of the present Monument station. When King William Street was in operation the next station to the south was Borough and the southern terminus of the line was Stockwell. The station was short-lived, in operation for less than ten years. It was named after the street above, which in turn was named after King William IV. London Buses route 343 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between New Cross Gate and Aldgate, it is operated by London Central. History When re-tendered, the route passed to Travel London's Walworth garage on 21 September 2005 with Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B7TLs introduced. Route 343 was included in the May 2009 sale of Travel London to Abellio London. Abellio London successfully tendered to retain the route with a new contract commencing on 5 May 2011. In June 2010, the route was revealed to be amongst the ten worst performing in London. London Buses route 133 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England, running between Streatham and Liverpool Street stations. History Route 133 commenced operating on 27 March 1929 from South Croydon to Liverpool Street station. London Buses route 21 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Newington Green and Lewisham, it is operated by London General. Bank and Monument are interlinked London Underground and Docklands Light Railway (DLR) stations that form a public transport complex spanning the length of King William Street in the City of London. Bank station, named after the Bank of England, opened in 1900 at Bank junction and is served by the Central, Northern and Waterloo & City lines, and the DLR.
