Borisas Dauguvietis
Borisas Dauguvietis (26 March 1885 – 13 July 1949) was a Lithuanian actor, playwright, writer, poet, and theater director. He is the brother of pianist Lidija Dauguvietytė, and father of actresses Galina Dauguvietytė, Elena Dauguvietytė-Kudabienė, and Ksana Dauguvietytė-Šniukštienė. The Borisas Dauguvietis Earring Award is named after him, and is given to people who significantly contribute to Lithuanian theater. Biography Early life Borisas Dauguvietis was born on 26 March 1885 in the village of the Russian Empire. According to Dauguvietis, his ancestors were Don Cossacks. He attended school in Panevėžys, in which he participated in an anti-Tsarist strike in 1905, and Jelgava. After briefly studying engineering in Riga, Dauguvietis enrolled in the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, Imperial Theatrical School in St. Petersburg, which he graduated from in 1909. Biržai
Biržai (, known also by several #Names, alternative names) is a town in northern Lithuania. Biržai is famous for its reconstructed Biržai Castle Manor house, manor, and the whole region is renowned for its many traditional-recipe beer breweries. Order of the Three Stars ( lv, Triju Zvaigžņu ordenis) is the highest civilian order awarded for meritorious service to Latvia. It was established in 1924 in remembrance of the founding of Latvia. Vincas Mykolaitis, known by his pen name Putinas (literally ''Viburnum'') (6 January 1893 in Pilotiškės, Suwałki Governorate – 7 June 1967 in Kačerginė), was a Lithuanian poet and writer. Kazys Binkis
Kazys Binkis (16 November 1893 – 27 April 1942) was a Lithuanian poet, journalist, and playwright. Biography Kazys Binkis was born on 16 November 1893 in the village of Gudeliai in Biržai District Municipality. He attended primary school at Papilys, graduating in 1908; he studied at the ''Saulė'' (The Sun), taking courses for teachers and at Biržai progymnasium. In 1910 he entered the school of agriculture in Voronec (near Švenčionys), but for the lack of funds moved to Vilnius in 1913 and began to prepare himself privately for matriculation examinations. Petras Vaičiūnas
Petras ( el, Πετράς) is the archaeological site of an ancient Minoan town on northeastern Crete. Geography Petras is just east of the modern Cretan town, Siteia. The site is situated on top of a small plateau and overlooks the sea north of Crete. Archaeology Metaxia Tsipopoulou began excavations at Petras in 1985. The main building, which was two stories when it stood, is 2800 square meters. Petras has a drainage system, double staircases, dadoes, frescoes and cut slab pavements. Liudas Gira
Liudas Gira (27 August 1884 in Vilnius – 1 July 1946 in Vilnius) was a Lithuanian poet, writer, and literary critic. His is noted for his early poetry, which resembles traditional Lithuanian folk songs. Gira was active in cultural and political life, gradually shifting towards communism in 1930s. He supported the Soviet Union and helped to transform independent Lithuania into the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic. His son, Vytautas Sirijos Gira, is also a known poet and writer. Biography In 1905, Gira graduated from the Vilnius Theological Seminary, but was not ordained into priesthood. He was active in cultural and political life.
