Boris Herrmann
Boris Herrmann (born 28 May 1981) is a German yachtsman and author competing mostly in offshore races in the IMOCA 60 class. He placed fifth in the 2020/21 Vendée Globe and third in the 2023 The Ocean Race. With the experiences of these races he wrote two books. He is currently preparing his campaign for the 2024/25 Vendée Globe with the Malizia-Seaexplorer, the first boat developed under his own management. Together with Pierre Casiraghi he founded the sailing team Team Malizia to support his IMOCA 60 campaign. The team belongs to the most professional and financially more competitive teams in the IMOCA 60 class. Vendée Globe
--> The Vendée Globe is a single-handed (solo) non-stop round the world yacht race. The race was founded by Philippe Jeantot in 1989, and since 1992 has taken place every four years. Global Ocean Race
The Global Ocean Race (GOR, previously known as ''Portimão Global Ocean Race'') is a yachting race for Class40 yachts which was first held in 2008–09. The second edition took place in 2011–12 and the third edition was scheduled to start in September 2015. The race was created for single- and doublehanded yachts (Category "Singlehand/Class 40" and “Doublehanded/Class 40") and small budgets. The two former professional yachtsmen Josh Hall and Brian Hancock were the initiators of the race. The GOR is the first Class-40-race leading through the Southern Ocean (Pacific) and around Cape Horn. Barcelona World Race
The Barcelona World Race is a non-stop, round-the-world yacht race for crews of two, sailed on Open 60 IMOCA monohull boats. Following the Clipper route, it starts and finishes in Barcelona, and is organised by the Barcelona Ocean Sailing Foundation (FNOB). The inaugural race, contested in 2007–08 by nine boats, was won by Jean-Pierre Dick and Damian Foxall on the boat ''Paprec-Virbac 2'' in a time of 92 days. Malizia II
Gitana 16, her name when launched, is an IMOCA 60 monohull sailing yacht, designed by VPLP and Guillaume Verdier and constructed by Multiplast in France. She was later known as Malizia II. The yacht's hull has a tumblehome shape and is equipped with foils, which were upgraded in 2016 and again in 2020. The boat was commissioned for the Gitana Sailing Team founded by Benjamin de Rothschild. Her first skipper was Sébastien Josse who was later replaced by Boris Herrmann. The yacht does not use any fossil fuel for power. In 2019, solar panels with an output of 1.3kw were installed, and power is also generated by two hydro-electric generators at the stern that can be raised and lowered as needed. The Ocean Race
The Ocean Race is a yacht race around the world, held every three or four years since 1973. Originally named the Whitbread Round the World Race after its initiating sponsor, British brewing company Whitbread, in 2001 it became the Volvo Ocean Race after Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo took up the sponsorship, and in 2019 it was renamed The Ocean Race. Though the route changes to accommodate various ports of call, the race typically departs Europe in October, and in recent editions has had either 9 or 10 legs, with in-port races at many of the stopover cities. Thomas Ruyant (born 24 May 1981) is a French sailor who was born in Dunkirk in the Nord region. He is an offshore sailor and competed in the 2020–2021 Vendée Globe IMOCA 60 onboard LinkedOut, named after a French employment charity. Ruyant started the Vendée Globe 2020 on 8 November 2020 and crossed the finish line on 28 January 2021 at 05:42:01 UTC+1 in 4th place with an elapsed time of 80d 15h 22m 01s.
