Boris Alekseevich Kurakin (Russian - Борис Алексеевич Куракин; 13 September 1784 - 2 October 1850) was a Russian Empire politician and diplomat. Life Early life He was the eldest child of Alexey Borisovich Kurakin (1759-1829) and his wife Princess Natalia Ivanovna Kurakina (1766-1831). One of his godparents was Catherine II of Russia. For seven years he was taught by Professor Bruckner, who hid his support of French Revolutionary ideas from his pupil. He was also taught religion by Mikhail Speransky, who remained his friend and adviser for the rest of his life. In 1799, aged 15, he became a junker at the Collegium of Foreign Affairs, becoming chamberlain in 1804. Prince Boris Andreevich Golitsyn (Russian – Борис Андреевич Голицын ; 15 May 1766 – 30 March 1822) was a Russian nobleman, army officer and member of the Golitsyn family. Life His parents were Andrei Michailovich Golitsyn (1729–1770) and his wife princess Elizabeta Borisovna Jusupova (1743–1770). He was named after his maternal uncle, Boris Grigorievich Jusupov, while his paternal uncle was Mikhail Mikhailovich Golitsyn (1675–1730). He joined the Preobraženski Regiment in 1779. Four years later, he rose to the rank of sub-lieutenant. He fought against the Swedes in 1790 and the Poles in 1794, rising to major general. He was made a marshal to Grand Duke Konstantin Pavlovich of Russia on 28 November 1796 and on 18 March 1798 became a lieutenant general. He transferred to a cavalry regiment on 27 November 1798 before finally retiring on 5 January 1800. The Decembrist Revolt ( ru , Восстание декабристов, translit = Vosstaniye dekabristov , translation = Uprising of the Decembrists) took place in Russia on , during the interregnum following the sudden death of Emperor Alexander I. Alexander's heir apparent, Konstantin, had privately declined the succession, unknown to the court, and his younger brother Nicholas decided to take power as Emperor Nicholas I, pending formal confirmation. While some of the army had sworn loyalty to Nicholas, a force of about 3,000 troops tried to mount a military coup in favour of Konstantin. The rebels, although weakened by dissension between their leaders, confronted the loyalists outside the Senate building in the presence of a large crowd. In the confusion, the Emperor's envoy, Mikhail Miloradovich, was assassinated. Eventually, the loyalists opened fire with heavy artillery, which scattered the rebels. A chamberlain (Medieval Latin: ''cambellanus'' or ''cambrerius'', with charge of treasury ''camerarius'') is a senior royal official in charge of managing a royal household.
