George Frederik Willem Borel
George Frederik Willem Borel (22 August 1837 – 4 August 1907) was a major general in the Netherlands, notable for his involvement in the Banjarmasin and Aceh Wars. Career Borel began his career in 1852 as a cadet in the artillery for the Dutch army at the Royal Military Academy in Breda, and by the Royal Decree of 14 July 1857 he was appointed as second lieutenant in the second regiment of fortress artillery. On September 22, 1857, he served in the artillery of the Indian army. He left on 13 November from the Colonial Wharf Depot to Harderwijk with a detachment replacement troops. Expedition to Banjarmasin The Royal Decree of 17 August 1859 promoted Borel to first lieutenant and commander of the expeditionary artillery. In the same year he began an expedition to the South and East Division of Borneo. After repeated defeats by the enemy, the war moved gradually to the north of the sultan's empire. Marie Nancy Suzanne "Suzy" Bidault (née Borel; 18 October 1904 – 8 November 1995) was the first French woman to become a diplomat when she was employed as an attaché at the Quai d'Orsay on 1 July 1930 after passing the entrance examination to the French Foreign Ministry. After serving there for 15 years, she married the French foreign minister Georges Bidault. Early life and education Borel was born in Toulon on 18 October 1904, the daughter of Élie Borel, a graduate of the École Polytechnique and a colonel assigned to the French colonies, and Louise Fontan, whose father Jules Fontan was a celebrated navy physician. Her childhood, spent in France, Senegal, Madagascar and Vietnam, included a secondary education in Dakar, Toulon, Nîmes and Montpellier. Pierre Borel ( la, Petrus Borellius; c. 1620 – 1671) was a French savant: a chemist (and reputed alchemist), physician, and botanist. Borel was born in Castres. He became a doctor of medicine at the University of Montpellier in 1640. In 1654 he became physician to the King of France, Louis XIV. In 1663 he married Esther de Bonnafous. In 1674 he became a member of the Académie française. He died in Paris. He concerned himself with an eclectic range of subjects: optics, ancient history, philology and bibliography. Petrus Borel
Joseph-Pierre Borel d'Hauterive, known as Petrus Borel (26 June 1809 – 14 July 1859), was a French writer of the Romantic movement. Born at Lyon, the twelfth of fourteen children of an ironmonger, he studied architecture in Paris but abandoned it for literature. Nicknamed ''le Lycanthrope'' ("wolfman"), and the center of the circle of Bohemians in Paris, he was noted for extravagant and eccentric writing, foreshadowing Surrealism. He was not commercially successful though, and eventually was found a minor civil service post by his friends, including Théophile Gautier. He's also considered as a ''poète maudit'', like Aloysius Bertrand, or Alice de Chambrier. Borel died at Mostaganem in Algeria. Pascal Borel (born 26 September 1978) is a German football coach and former player who played as a goalkeeper. In 1999, Borel earned two caps for Germany at the U21 level. Playing career Borel was born in Karlsruhe. He played between 1998 and 2005 with Werder Bremen, and before that with SV Waldhof Mannheim and FC Germania Friedrichstal. In season 2007–08, he was part of Budapest Honvéd FC, where he made eight appearances playing in the Hungarian League. In March 2009, Borel signed with Chernomorets Burgas until the end of the season. On 4 April 2009, he made his competitive debut for the team in a match against Lokomotiv Sofia. Borel quickly became part of the main team and on 28 May 2009 he received a new contract with the club until the end of 2010–11 season. He left the club on 10 June 2011 after his contract expired.
