Borden, Western Australia
Borden is a small town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The town is located south east of the state capital, Perth and north of Albany on Chester Pass Road. At the 2006 census, Borden and the surrounding area had a population of 164. The town was established as a siding on the railway line between Gnowangerup and Ongerup and is named after Canadian Prime Minister Robert Laird Borden. The railway opened for business on 6 January 1913 and closed on 13 October 1957. The area near Paper Collar Creek near where the town stands was a meeting point for sandalwood cutters in the 1840s for when they used to head to the port at Albany. In 1916, of land was set aside for a townsite. Although the site had not been surveyed J.G. Jenkins had already erected the first building containing dwelling, dining, refreshment and assembly rooms. Borden is a town in Wood Township, Clark County, Indiana, United States. The population was 808 at the 2010 census. The town's official name was New Providence until December 29, 1994. History The town was founded in 1816 by Rhode Islander John Borden and was originally named New Providence, after the Rhode Island capital of Providence. William W. Borden Chase
Borden Chase (January 11, 1900 – March 8, 1971) was an American writer. Career Early jobs Born Frank Fowler, he left school at fourteen went through an assortment of jobs, including driving for gangster Frankie Yale and working as a sandhog on the construction of New York City's Holland Tunnel, where he worked with union leader Norman Redwood. He turned to writing, first short stories and novels, and later, screenplays. He changed his name to Borden Chase, allegedly getting his nominal inspiration from Borden Milk and Chase Manhattan Bank. Novelist Chase wrote a story based on his Holland Tunnel experience with Edward Doherty. Film rights were bought by Fox Films who hired Chase to adapt the book and act as a technical adviser. The result was ''Under Pressure'' (1935), directed by Raoul Walsh. Chase later adapted it into the novel ''East River''. The Borden Ranch AVA is an American Viticultural Area located in both Sacramento County, California, Sacramento County and San Joaquin County, California, San Joaquin County, California. It is part of the larger Lodi AVA. Located in the east central portion of the Lodi area, Borden Ranch vineyards are located at altitudes between and above sea level. The northern edge of the AVA is defined by Laguna Creek (Sacramento County), Laguna Creek and the southern edge is defined by Dry Creek (Mokelumne River), Dry Creek, both of which flow out of the foothills of the Sierra Nevada (U.S.), Sierra Nevada Mountains into the San Joaquin Valley. The soils in Borden Ranch is alluvial with cobbles, claypan, clay pan, and clay loam. Red wine grape varietals are the most commercially important grapes in the area. Borden is an unincorporated community in southwestern Colorado County, Texas, located 4 miles northeast of Weimar, Texas, Weimar. The community was known as Harvey's Creek Settlement before the U.S. Civil War. After the war ended, Gail Borden returned to Texas, and at what would become Borden, built houses for himself, his brother, and his sons. He renamed the settlement Bordenville. The Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway opened its line through the Borden area in 1872. In 2000, Borden had 60 residents. Borden (formerly, Alabama Settlement and Arcola) is an unincorporated community in Madera County, California. It is located on the Southern Pacific Railroad southeast of Madera, at an elevation of 272 feet (83 m). The first settlers came from Alabama in 1858, whence its original name. The name Arcola comes from the plantation in Alabama owned by one of the settlers. The current name was bestowed by the railroad for civic leader, Dr. Joseph Borden.
