Bora Bora Island is a island in the Bora Bora, Bora Bora Islands Group, within the Society Islands of French Polynesia. It is the main island of the Bora Bora Commune, commune of the same name. Together with its surrounding islands of Tapu (Bora Bora), Tapu, Ahuna (Bora Bora), Ahuna, Tevairoa (Bora Bora), Tevairoa, Tane (Bora Bora), Tane, Mute (Bora Bora), Mute, Tufari (Bora Bora), Tufari, Tehotu (Bora Bora), Tehotu, Pitiaau (Bora Bora), Pitiaau, Sofitel Motu (Bora Bora), Sofitel, Toopua (Bora Bora), Toopua, and Toopuaiti (Bora Bora), Toopuaiti, it forms the group of Bora Bora. The Society Islands (french: Îles de la Société, officially ''Archipel de la Société;'' ty, Tōtaiete mā) are an archipelago located in the South Pacific Ocean. Politically, they are part of French Polynesia, an overseas country of the French Republic. Geographically, they form part of Polynesia. The archipelago is believed to have been named by Captain James Cook during his first voyage in 1769, supposedly in honour of the Royal Society, the sponsor of the first British scientific survey of the islands; however, Cook wrote in his journal that he called the islands ''Society'' "as they lay contiguous to one another." Mute (Bora Bora)
Motu Mute is a island in the Bora Bora Islands Group, within the Society Islands of French Polynesia. It is the located between Havae and Tooparopae. The Island is the location of the Bora Bora Airport, with the runway starts and ends directly on the water. The airfield has a modern handling building in a local style. It is located directly on the beach of the lagoon and is connected to a pier, on which the ferry goes to Vaitape, the main town of the island. Administration The island is part of Bora Bora Commune. Its current population includes the family operating the Rent-a-boat office. Toopua (Bora Bora)
Motu Toopua is a island in the Bora Bora Islands Group, within the Society Islands of French Polynesia. It is the located between Toopua Iti, and Tapu. Geography Motu Toopua in the west is a high island up to 148 m over the sea surface (Mount Mauaohunoa) of the rest of the former crater rim and also consists of volcanic rocks. History On Toopua, as on the main island, was one of the stratified tribal societies (named Ativahia), and it was in constant rivalries and wars among the other tribes. Motu Tane (which in Tahitian translates as Man's Island), is a private island in the lagoon of Bora Bora in French Polynesia. It is the located between Paahi, and Pitoraverahi. History Motu Tane is well known in Bora Bora as having been Paul-Emile Victor's home. Paul-Emile Victor was the famous French polar explorer and author and chose as his personal paradise refuge Motu Tane in Bora Bora, to live a peaceful and secluded life. The island has coconut groves, encircled by a white sand beach with, just beyond, Polynesia's sparkling turquoise blue waters. In 1997, it was purchased by François Nars, artistic director of the well-known cosmetic brand that he founded which carries his name. As of 2020, it is for sale. Overseas Collectivity
The French overseas collectivities (''collectivité d'outre-mer'' or ''COM'') are first-order administrative divisions of France, like the French regions, but have a semi-autonomous status. The COMs include some former French overseas colonies and other French overseas entities with a particular status, all of which became COMs by constitutional reform on 28 March 2003. The COMs differ from overseas regions and overseas departments, which have the same status as metropolitan France but are located outside Europe. As integral parts of France, overseas collectivities are represented in the National Assembly, Senate and Economic and Social Council.
