Booker T. Washington High School (El Dorado, Arkansas)
Booker T. Washington High School was a black high school in El Dorado, Arkansas. History School for Black children were established by 1897. Booker T. Washington High School was established in 1908. In 1949 the school moved to a new building at the intersection of Hillsboro and Quaker Streets, while the old school was repurposed as Carver Grammar School. After the public schools integrated, the school was closed. The class of 1969 was the last graduating class before integration; the school closed in 1987. The yearbook was originally named the "Bulletin," but later was renamed the "Hornet." After integration, the school was converted to a middle school. El Dorado, founded by Matthew Rainey, is a city in, and the county seat of, Union County, on the southern border of Arkansas, United States. According to the 2010 census, the population of the city is 18,884. El Dorado is headquarters of the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission as well as Murphy USA, Deltic Timber Corporation and a DelekUS oil refinery. Goose Tatum
Reece "Goose" Tatum (May 31, 1921 – January 18, 1967) was an American Negro league baseball and basketball player. In 1942, he was signed to the Harlem Globetrotters and had an 11-year career with the team. He later formed his own team known as the Harlem Magicians with former Globetrotters player Marques Haynes. He is a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame. Tatum's number 50 is retired by the Globetrotters.
