Boo Cook
Boo Cook (born 1972) is a British comic artist, whose work mainly features in the comic ''2000 AD (comics), 2000 AD''. Career Cook's art has appeared in the ''ABC Warriors'' and ''Judge Dredd'', as ''Asylum'' (written by Rob Williams (comics), Rob Williams) and ''Dead Men Walking'' (written by David Bishop (writer), David Bishop). In 2005, Cook graduated to regular work on the flagship story on ''2000 AD'', ''Judge Dredd'', mostly to scripts by Gordon Rennie and Simon Spurrier. With Spurrier he developed new comedy character ''Harry Kipling''. Boo Cook started and contributed to the 2000AD Online Charity Auction. Cook has also been providing the art for the latest Judge Anderson stories by Alan Grant (writer), Alan Grant, and providing cover artwork on titles such as Marvel Comics, Marvel's ''X-Factor (comics), X-Factor'', the ''Elephantmen: War Toys'' prequel mini-series, and subsequently, the interior art for ''Elephantmen'' #21. Comic Expo
The Bristol International Comic & Small Press Expo, commonly known as Comic Expo or BCE, was an annual comic book convention held in the United Kingdom from 2004 to 2013. The show was held once a year in Bristol in the spring. The organiser was Mike Allwood, formerly of Area 51, a comic shop based in Bristol. The convention featured floorspace for exhibitors, including comic book dealers and collectibles merchants. Along with panels, seminars, and workshops with comic book professionals, one of the highlights of Comic Expo was the Orang Utan Comics film night, which was a staple of the show since 2007. The charity event "Draw the World Together" was an annual part of the show. BCE included a separate "Small Press Expo," an autograph area, as well as a so-called "Artists' Alley" where comics artists signed autographs and sold or offered free sketches. Titan Magazines
Titan Magazines is the magazine-publishing division of Titan Publishing Group. Titan Magazines' publishing directors are Ricky Claydon and John Dziewiatkowski. History Titan Magazines launched in 1995 with '' Star Trek Magazine'' with John Freeman as first editor, although it had previously published several one shot film tie-in titles. Since then it has published many film, TV and comics titles, including poster magazines for Tim Burton's '' Batman''. Some of Titan's magazines are published in the US, although not all, some with an entirely separate magazine. In April 2016, Bleeding Cool published a blog/vlog entry pertaining to concerns over Titan's UK reprints of DC titles, specifically cancellations and a lack of updates and communication with readers, as well as addressing the frequent inconsistencies regarding the publication dates of future issues. Damnation Station
Damnation (from Latin '' damnatio'') is the concept of divine punishment and torment in an afterlife for actions that were committed, or in some cases, not committed on Earth. In Ancient Egyptian religious tradition, citizens would recite the 42 negative confessions of Maat as their heart was weighed against the feather of truth. If the citizen's heart was heavier than a feather they would be devoured by Ammit. Zoroastrianism developed an eschatological concept of a Last Judgment called Frashokereti where the dead will be raised and the righteous wade through a river of milk while the wicked will be burned in a river of molten metal. Abrahamic religions such as Christianity have similar concepts of believers facing judgement on a last day to determine if they will spend eternity in Gehenna or heaven for their sin . The End Is Nigh
''The End Is Nigh'' was an annual British fanzine edited by Michael Molcher. It was launched at the Bristol Comic Expo in 2005 and, since becoming a semi-annual publication, each subsequent issue is also launched there. It deals with the End of the World, each issue dealing with differently themed Apocalypses. The contents range from articles to sequential art, with contributors drawn from both comics and magazines. Issues Past, present and future issues include: *Summer 2005 – the first issue was about zombies and zombidom. Cover by Matt Timson. *Winter 2005 – the second issue had a war theme. Al Ewing
Al Ewing () is a British comics writer who has mainly worked in the small press and for '' 2000 AD'' and Marvel Comics. Career Al Ewing began his career writing stories in the four-page ''Future Shocks'' format for '' 2000 AD'' and moved on to regular stints on ''Judge Dredd'' (2008–2015), for which his 2010 story "Doctor What?" marked Brendan McCarthy's return to ''2000 AD''. They later worked together on a new series entitled ''The Zaucer of Zilk''. Ewing worked on ''Damnation Station'' and '' Zombo'', the latter illustrated by Henry Flint, which was collected in trade paperback in 2010. ''Judge Dredd: The Megazine'' is a monthly British comic magazine, launched in September 1990. It is a sister publication to '' 2000 AD''. Its name is a play on words, formed from "magazine" and Judge Dredd's locale Mega-City One. ''Zarjaz'' is a comics anthology fanzine for the long-running British science fiction comic '' 2000 AD''. Publication history ''Zarjaz'' was started in 2001 by Andrew J. Lewis. The fanzine contained comic strips based on various ''2000 AD'' characters and also ran an in-depth interview with writer Alan Moore. There were contributions from established ''2000 AD'' creators like Alan Grant and gave a start to others such as Adrian Bamforth and Simon Spurrier. It was originally printed in A4 format and reproduced cheaply giving it something of the feel of the original 2000 AD comic as it appeared in the 70s and early 80s. Issues 3 and 4 were printed in the smaller A5 size in an attempt to keep costs low and were published simultaneously. After four issues, ''Zarjaz'' was re-launched in 2005 by Colin J. Dead Men Walking (comics)
Dead Men Walking are a British based rock supergroup with a multi national line-up, who have toured the UK, Ireland and the United States. From 2001 to 2006 they were led by Mike Peters of the Alarm and Kirk Brandon, of Spear of Destiny, with a varying cast of musicians. Since 2015, they split into two bands, one led by Peters called the Jack Tars, and another led by Brandon keeping the Dead Men Walking name. Career The band started in 2001, with Brandon and Peters being joined by Pete Wylie (Wah!) and Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols) for the first live album. For the second album, Wylie was replaced by Billy Duffy (The Cult) and a drummer was added in Slim Jim Phantom (Stray Cats). For the third album, Duffy was replaced by Bruce Watson (Big Country). Pat Mills
Patrick Eamon Mills (born 1949) is an English comics writer and editor who, along with John Wagner, revitalised British boys comics in the 1970s, and has remained a leading light in British comics ever since. He has been called "the godfather of British comics". His comics are notable for their violence and anti-authoritarianism. He is best known for creating '' 2000 AD'' and playing a major part in the development of ''Judge Dredd''. Biography Mills started his career as a sub-editor for D. C. Thomson & Co. Ltd, where he met Wagner. In 1971 both left to go freelance, and were soon writing scripts for IPC's girls' and humour comics. After D.C. Thomson launched ''Warlord'', a successful war-themed weekly, Mills was asked in 1975 to develop a rival title for IPC. Based in the girls' comics department to avoid the attention of the staff of the boys' department, Mills, along with Wagner and Gerry Finley-Day, worked in secret to create ''Battle Picture Weekly''.
