Bonymaen Broncos
Bonymaen Broncos were a Welsh rugby league team that participated in the Rugby League Conference Welsh Championship. All home games were played at Bonymaen RFC. ''Bonymaen Broncos'' were founded in 2011. The club played its first game on Saturday 21 May 2011, when they played hosts to Neath Port Talbot Steelers. Broncos won the RLC Welsh Championship in their inaugural season. All of the team are members of the Bonymaen RFC Union team who play in division 1 West. The Broncos were created by brothers Ian and Richard Brooks who are also the teams coaches and Manager alongside club Secretary Stuart Williams. In their first season they were undefeated in all games and had 9 players represent the grand slam winning Wales Dragonhearts. The Broncos also have a junior team founded at the same time who play at under 14 level. Nicknamed 'The Baby Broncos' they won 3 out of their 7 games in their opening season. The South Wales Premiership is the league for amateur clubs in southern Wales. Previously it was part of the Rugby League Conference but became standalone in 2012. History The Rugby League Conference was founded in 1997 as the ''Southern Conference'', a 10-team pilot league for teams in the South of England and English Midlands. It expanded into Wales for the first time in 2001 when Cardiff Demons joined the South West division. After two years of just one club in South Wales, the RFL saw that it was time to expand, letting in six more open-aged sides to form the new Welsh Conference and Wales gained its own division for the first time. The Premier Division were set up in 2005 for teams who had achieved a certain playing standard and were able to travel further afield to find stronger opposition. Bonymaen RFC
Bonymaen Rugby Football Club are a Welsh rugby union club based in the village of Bon-y-maen, Swansea, South Wales. Bonymaen RFC currently play in the WRU Championship and are a feeder club for the Ospreys. also including teams from under 6s to the under 16s, youth, Bonymaen 2nds, Bonymaen 1sts and Bonymaen Ladies. In May 2006 Bonymaen RFC were one of the 13 'Rebel' clubs who brought a vote of no confidence against the Welsh Rugby Union, which centered on financing and the handling of former coach Mike Ruddock's departure. The vote failed heavily with only 20 votes for the motion and over 300 against. In the 2006–07 season, Bonymaen RFC won the Division One West League, but were denied promotion to the Premier League as their grounds were deemed to not meet WRU criteria. Neath Port Talbot Steelers were a rugby league team based in Port Talbot, West Glamorgan. They played in the Welsh Premier division of the Rugby League Conference at Aberavon Green Stars RFC.
