Bonnie Simmons
Bonnie Simmons is a California based radio personality. Audio director of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, she is also a band manager, currently managing or having managed in the past Cake, Noe Venable and Etienne de Rocher. Simmons started at KSAN in 1968 as the record librarian, became music librarian, music director, on-air DJ, and by 1975, was the program director. Simmons is executive director of the Bill Graham Memorial Foundation. Simmons spent several years working as a sandwich-maker at Ozzie’s Soda Fountain in Berkeley. Simmons runs the transport department for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Cake (band)
Cake is an alternative rock band from Sacramento, California, consisting of singer John McCrea, trumpeter Vince DiFiore, guitarist Xan McCurdy, bassist Daniel McCallum, and drummer Todd Roper. The band has been noted for McCrea's sarcastic lyrics and deadpan vocals, and their wide-ranging musical influences, including norteño, country music, mariachi, rock, funk, folk music, and hip hop. Cake was formed in 1991 by McCrea, DiFiore, Greg Brown (guitar), Frank French (drums), and Shon Meckfessel (bass) who soon left and was replaced by Gabe Nelson. Noe Venable
Noe Venable (born April 20, 1976 in San Francisco, California) is an experimental folk/pop singer-songwriter. She has earned a loyal fan base in her native San Francisco, in part through frequently performing in small, intimate venues. Her advocacy of small venues caused a stir in the San Francisco music community when she took ''San Francisco Chronicle'' reporter Joel Selvin to task for claiming that the city's music scene was "dead". Education Venable attended Bennington College as a Dramatic Writing and then a Music major before deciding to pursue music as a career. In 2004 Venable moved to Brooklyn, New York where she obtained a bachelor's degree at Hunter College of the City University of New York. In 2007 she relocated to Boston, Massachusetts to begin graduate studies at Harvard Divinity School. Bill Graham (promoter)
Bill Graham (born Wulf Wolodia Grajonca; January 8, 1931 – October 25, 1991) was a German-American impresario and rock concert promoter from the 1960s until his death in 1991 in a helicopter crash. On July 4, 1939, he was sent from Germany to France due to political uncertainty in his home country. At age 10, he settled into a foster home in the Bronx, New York. Graham graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School and subsequently from City College with a business degree. In the early 1960s, Graham moved to San Francisco, and in 1965, began to manage the San Francisco Mime Troupe. He had teamed up with local Haight Ashbury promoter Chet Helms to organize a benefit concert, then promoted several free concerts. This eventually turned into a profitable full-time career and he assembled a talented staff. Hardly Strictly Bluegrass (HSB), originally Strictly Bluegrass, is an annual free and non-commercial music festival held the first weekend of October in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, California. Conceived and subsidized by San Francisco venture capitalist Warren Hellman, the festival has been held every year since the first event in 2001. From its outset, the festival has been subsidized by Hellman. Various corporations have offered to sponsor the event over the years, but Hellman always turned them down, saying in an interview, "I want to keep it entirely free and noncommercial". For some performers, the unique fact that the event is unsponsored is very important to character.
