Bonnie Bonnell
Bonnie Bonnell (August 1, 1905 – March 14, 1964) was an actress who played "straight woman" in seven early short comedies, most of which featured the Three Stooges when they worked with Ted Healy, between 1933 and 1934. Career According to Stooges biographers, she was also Healy's offscreen girlfriend during that time. In the film ''Plane Nuts'', she plays a "fourth stooge", working as a partner to Moe, Larry, and Curly as they torment Healy during his stage act. She was a stage and vaudeville actress for several years before her film career. Bonnell died of liver failure on March 14, 1964, at age 58 in Santa Monica, California. Nertsery Rhymes
''Nertsery Rhymes'' is a 1933 American Pre-Code musical comedy short film starring Ted Healy and His Stooges, released on July 6, 1933 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It is the first of five short films the comedy team made for the studio. Plot The Stooges play Ted Healy's children who refuse to go to sleep unless they are told a bedtime story. Healy first tries singing a comic version of '' The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere'' which ultimately fails putting the young lads to sleep. Healy's date, the Good Fairy (Bonnie Bonnell) then tells them her own bedtime story, courtesy of a musical revue. The trio eventually turn in for the evening, only to have Curly request a second bedtime story. Healy and the Good Fairy then proceed to tell the children about '' The Woman in the Shoe''. When that fails to work, a frustrated Healy smacks the three lads over the head with a rubber mallet, knocking them unconscious. ''Beer and Pretzels'' is the second of five short films starring Ted Healy and The Three Stooges, His Stooges (Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard) released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer on August 26, 1933. A musical-comedy film, the film also featured Bonnie Bonnell, Healy's girlfriend at the time. Some footage of Healy and the Stooges from the unfinished MGM musical ''The March of Time (MGM musical), The March of Time'' was included in the film as well. Plot Ted Healy and his Stooges are entertainers. But because Healy is much more interested in women than he is in performing, they are thrown out of the Happy Hour Theatre. Unable to keep a job anywhere else, they are reduced to waiting tables at a high-class restaurant. This, of course, ends up being a disaster as the restaurant is thrown into chaos because of them. ''Hollywood on Parade'' (1932–1934) is a series of short subjects released by Paramount Pictures. Production background One short (# B-9) is frequently misidentified as future Stooge Curly Howard's first appearance on film, as cited by historians (he replaces Shemp). This is because it was mistaken for a 1932 short when Criterion Pictures acquired the shorts for television distribution in the early 1950s, and slapped a generic title card on all films in this series with a 1932 copyright notice. In fact, # B-9 was a 1934 Paramount release, and most likely filmed during a loan-out period for Howard from MGM, around the same time Ted Healy and the Three Stooges costarred in '' Myrt and Marge'' (1933) for Universal Studios. # A-8 is one of only two movies to portray a live-action Betty Boop. ''The Big Idea'' is the fifth and last of five short films starring Ted Healy and His Stooges (Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard) released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer on May 12, 1934. Production Like other shorts Healy and the Stooges filmed at MGM, stock footage was utilized to fill out the 20 minutes of time. For ''The Big Idea'', MGM used musical numbers edited out of the feature films ''Dancing Lady'' (1933), which ironically had a supporting role by Healy and a cameo by the Stooges, and ''Going Hollywood'' (1933). This is one of the last films and the fifth and final musical-comedy short subject in which the Three Stooges appeared with longtime partner Ted Healy. By the time of the release of ''The Big Idea'', the Three Stooges had signed a new contract with Columbia Pictures to do a series of comedy short films without Healy, beginning with ''Woman Haters'' (1934). ''Myrt and Marge'' is a 1933 American pre-Code Universal Studios feature film, starring Myrtle Vail and Donna Damerel. The film is noteworthy today because it co-stars Ted Healy and his Stooges, shortly before the trio split from him and became the Three Stooges (Curly Howard, Moe Howard and Larry Fine). The team included Bonnie Bonnell, who was a short-lived female Stooge. Synopsis Film adaptation of the popular 1930s radio serial. Myrt Spear's (Myrtle Vail) touring vaudeville revue is full of talent and bound for Broadway, but low on funds. ''Hello Pop!'' is the third of five short films starring Ted Healy and His Stooges released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer on September 16, 1933. A musical-comedy film, the film also featured the Albertina Rasch Dancers and Bonnie Bonnell (Healy's girlfriend at the time).
