Bonnells Bay is a List of suburbs in Greater Newcastle, New South Wales, suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, Australia on a peninsula east of the town of Morisset, New South Wales, Morisset on the western side of Lake Macquarie (New South Wales), Lake Macquarie. History The town, known as Morisset East until 1948, is named after the Bonnell family, particularly William F. Bonnell, the first settlers of the majority of what is today Bonnells Bay and parts of Windermere Park and Morisset Park. The Bonnell family also have a bay which is part of Lake Macquarie (New South Wales), Lake Macquarie named after them, Bonnells Bay. The Bonnell family owned what is today all of Woods Point, now a national park and parts of the northern grounds of Morisset Hospital over north to the Lake Macquarie (New South Wales), Lake Macquarie foreshore of what is now Bonnells Bay. Lake Macquarie is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in Greater Newcastle, Hunter Region of the Australian state of New South Wales. It is represented by the independent Greg Piper. Lake Macquarie is entirely located in the City of Lake Macquarie, Greater Newcastle and includes suburbs as far north as Killingworth, Boolaroo and Cardiff and as far east as Cardiff South. Suburbs further north are in Cessnock and Wallsend and suburbs further east are in Charlestown and Swansea.
