Bone Black (2019 Novel)
''Bone Black'' is a novel, published in 2019, by Canadian author Carol Rose GoldenEagle. In a long interview with Shelagh Rogers GoldenEagle described her experience in the decades as a journalist of First Nations women being covered only as victims. They discussed the long history of prejudice against First Nations women. They discussed the long history of police inaction in the investigation of missing First Nations women. Plot Wren is devastated when her twin sister, Raven, mysteriously disappears after the two spend an evening visiting at a local pub. When Wren files a missing persons report with the local police, she is dismissed and becomes convinced the case will not be properly investigated. As she follows media reports, Wren realizes that the same heartbreak she's feeling is the same for too many families, indeed for whole Nations. Carol Rose GoldenEagle is a writer and broadcaster, from Saskatchewan. Early life and education Carol Rose GoldenEagle was born, in 1963, in a religious hospital, to a First Nations woman who was unmarried, so Hospital authorities stripped her from her mother. Her adoption, without the agreement of her mother, was part of a now discredited program known as the Sixties Scoop. The purpose of the program was to break Native culture by adopting children into white families. Hospital authorities intervened to take GoldenEagle from her mother even though she was a nurse. GoldenEagle never met her mother, only being able to trace her roots as an adult, and learning her mother had died in a car accident. Shelagh Rogers
Shelagh Rogers, OC, is a Canadian broadcast journalist based in British Columbia. She is the host and producer of CBC Radio One's '' The Next Chapter'', and former chancellor of the University of Victoria. Background Rogers grew up in Ottawa, Ontario. Rogers began in broadcasting at CFRC, the campus radio station of Queen's University. She also worked at Kingston, Ontario's CKWS, hosting a country music program while still a student at Queen's.
