Bond Pirates Rugby Club
The Bond Pirates Rugby Club is an Australian rugby union football club that competes in the Gold Coast and District Rugby Union competition. The club is based in Miami on Queensland's Gold Coast The clubs motto is 'Integrity is optional'. History The Bond Pirates are an amalgamation of two early GCDRU clubs, the Pirates and Bond University. The original Bond University club was based on the same field as the current one, but relations with the university were never good, and a permanent club house and change rooms were never made available. The Pirates were a loosely affiliated bunch of rugby enthusiasts with no fixed home ground who would often cobble together a team on a Saturday morning. The Queensland Rugby Union, or QRU, is the Sports governing body, governing body for the sport of rugby union within the state of Queensland in Australia. It is a member and founding union of Rugby Australia. The QRU was founded in Brisbane in 1883 as the ''Northern Rugby Union'', after breaking away from the Queensland Football Association before being formally constituted in 1893 when the name was changed to the Queensland Rugby Football Union. List Of Australian Rugby Union Teams
The highest level of provincial rugby union in Australia is Super Rugby. There are five Australian teams in this competition, which also features teams from New Zealand and Fiji. Australia currently has no national club competition. The first attempt at such a competition, the Australian Rugby Championship, was launched in 2007 with eight teams, but lasted only one season before the nation's governing body, the Australian Rugby Union (now Rugby Australia), decided to discontinue the competition due to financial losses. The second and most recent attempt at forming a national domestic league, the National Rugby Championship, was launched in 2014 with nine teams and lasted six years until it was disbanded in 2020. Rugby union in Queensland has traditionally been one of the most popular professional and recreational team sports. The earliest known Rugby football matches were played in Brisbane from 1876 through to 1878. Rugby struggled to gain a foothold until it got its break in 1882 with the first inter-colonial matches against New South Wales, and the formation of the Northern Rugby Union. Between 1885 and 1887 it surpassed the popularity of Australian rules football in Queensland after the leading schools association decided to play it exclusively and after 1890 spread virtually unopposed throughout the colony. Tai McIsaac
Tai McIsaac (born 19 March 1975, in Brisbane) is an Australian rugby union football coach, and a former professional player. He is currently the head coach of the Perth Spirit team in Australia's National Rugby Championship. McIsaac played as a hooker for the Western Force and Queensland Reds in the Super Rugby competition before retiring from playing in 2009. Career Prior to rugby, McIsaac had been a National League water polo player and represented Australian water polo in the under-21 team. Although he eventually specialised as a hooker, McIsaac started out in rugby at the age of 23, playing as a prop. He began his rugby career at Bond Pirates in the Gold Coast District Rugby Union, later moving on to the Gold Coast Breakers in Queensland Premier Rugby.
