Bomb The Music Industry
Bomb the Music Industry! (commonly abbreviated as Bomb or BtMI!) were an American punk rock musical collective from Baldwin, Nassau County, New York, United States, led by singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Rosenstock. The band was known for their DIY punk ethic and commitment to accessibility. In addition to distributing their music via a pay what you want model, they primarily played affordable all-ages shows and established an accessible and collaborative environment for fans. Due to these factors, the collective has been referred to as "the Fugazi for the internet age of punk." While the group's structure remained loose throughout its history, with their roster varying significantly between performances, a core five-piece lineup gradually coalesced around Jeff Rosenstock, John DeDominici, Mike Costa, Tom Malinowski, and Matt Keegan, although they continued to be frequently joined by other collaborators. Baldwin, Nassau County, New York
Baldwin is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 33,919 at the time of the 2020 census. History Original inhabitants of the area between Parsonage Creek near Oceanside and Milburn Creek near Freeport were Native Americans known as the Meroke, or Merrick, a band of Lenape people who were indigenous to most of the South Shore of Long Island. They spoke an Algonquian language and lived in two villages along Milburn Creek. In 1643, English colonists began to call this area Hick's Neck, after two of Hempstead's early settlers, John Spragg from England and John Hicks from Flushing, New York. Little Boxes
"Little Boxes" is a song written and composed by Malvina Reynolds in 1962, which became a hit for her friend Pete Seeger in 1963, when he released his cover version. The song is a social satire about the development of suburbia, and associated conformist middle-class attitudes. It mocks suburban tract housing as "little boxes" of different colors "all made out of ticky-tacky", and which "all look just the same". "Ticky-tacky" is a reference to the shoddy material supposedly used in the construction of the houses. Background Reynolds was a folk singer-songwriter and political activist in the 1960s and 1970s. ''Vacation'' is the sixth and final studio album by American punk rock band Bomb the Music Industry!. It released on July 26, 2011, by Quote Unquote Records, Ernest Jenning, and Really Records. It was announced in September 2010. Much of the music was written while Jeff Rosenstock was on a free trip to Belize, and unlike the band's previous albums, it is "about trying to build a home." There are guest contributions from members of Fake Problems, Bayside, Andrew Jackson Jihad, and Good Luck. Scrambles
''Scrambles'' is the fifth studio album by Bomb the Music Industry!, released digitally and physically on February 15th, 2009. The album was released a year and a half after Get Warmer, making it the longest gap between the release of two chronologically adjacent Bomb the Music Industry! albums. Frontman Jeff Rosenstock aimed to record the album on a limited budget of $50; up to that point, the band had never spent that much money on the recording of an album. In 2019, to celebrate the album's 10th anniversary, a compilation of demos for the album was released by Rosenstock. Recording and composition In November 2007, the band announced they were in the demo and writing phase for their next album; alongside this, they posted a demo of "25" on their Myspace profile. ''Get Warmer'' is the fourth full-length album by DIY collective Bomb the Music Industry!. Recording and composition Originally, the band were going to follow up 2006’s '' Goodbye Cool World!'' with an EP entitled ''No No New York''. This concept was abandoned in favor of recording this album. A song from the abandoned EP, entitled "The Soul Crushing Northeast" can be hearhere This was the first BtMI! album to feature a live band, which was made up of over 20 different musicians. The title track makes references to both Tom Waits and the Wham! single "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go". SKAppleton
SKAppleton is the largest annual ska concert in the Midwestern United States. It is held in early May each year in Appleton, Wisconsin, and features ska bands from around the region. The concert has included such bands as Mustard Plug, The Toasters, Umbrella Bed, 1,2,3 Walrus!, The Invaders, Something To Do, Quazimodo and the Hunch, Hired Geeks, Deal's Gone Bad, and Bomb The Music Industry. The festival dates back to at least 1993. SKAppleton 2011 took place on June 5 at Tanner's in Kimberly, Wisconsin, and featured Something To Do, Car Full of Midgets, Shortstop From Tokyo, Crazy 88, Superluck and more. Mustard Plug headlined the festival. This also proved to be Car Full of Midgets last Skappleton, and their second to last show. Album Minus Band
''Album Minus Band'' is the debut full-length album from DIY collective Bomb the Music Industry! It was recorded by ex- Arrogant Sons of Bitches frontman, Jeff Rosenstock, in a bedroom. The album contains “Unlicensed cover songs. Unlicensed audio samples. Great times.” It is available for free download on the band's website, as well as on Quote Unquote Records’ website. The title of this record would go on to inspire the name of a fan-sourced tribute album entitled "Album Minus Jeff". It was released on vinyl for the first time in 2008 through Asbestos Records. In a 2015 interview Rosenstock said "This record was kind of terrifying to make, but it was also really honest.
