Bold Forbes (March 31, 1973 – August 9, 2000) was a champion thoroughbred racehorse, winner of the 1976 Kentucky Derby and 1976 Belmont Stakes. The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word ''thoroughbred'' is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed. Castle Forbes (foaled 1961) was an American Thoroughbred Champion racemare voted the American Co-Champion Two-Year-Old Filly of 1963. Sired by the Irish stallion Tulyar, winner of the 1952 Epsom Derby, her dam was Longford, a daughter of the very good American runner, Menow. Bred and raced by the Phipps family's Wheatley Stable, Castle Forbes was trained by National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame trainer, Bill Winfrey. Among her most important wins at age two, she captured the Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park and the Gardenia Stakes at Garden State Park in which she defeated the previously unbeaten Tosmah with whom she would share 1963 Championship honors. Forego (April 30, 1970 – August 27, 1997) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse that won eight Eclipse Awards including Horse of the Year, Champion Handicap Horse and Champion Sprinter. Background Foaled at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky, he was owned and bred by Mrs. Martha Farish Gerry's Lazy F Ranch. Over the years, Forego had four trainers; Sherrill W. Ward, Eddie Hayward, and eventually Frank Y. Whiteley Jr. and his son David A. Whiteley. He had two main jockeys: Hall of Fame rider Bill Shoemaker and Heliodoro Gustines. Racing career In 1973, Forego was fourth behind Secretariat in a Kentucky Derby that was run in record time (1:59 2/5). Elocutionist (March 4, 1973 – 1995) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse best known for winning the second leg of the U.S. Triple Crown series. Background Bred by Josephine Abercrombie's Pin Oak Stud and foaled at her Versailles, Kentucky farm, Elocutionist was sired by multiple stakes winner Gallant Romeo, a son of U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Gallant Man. He was out of the mare Strictly Speaking, whose sire was the very fast Fleet Nasrullah, a multiple stakes winner who broke two track records. Elocutionist was purchased at the July 1974 Fasig-Tipton yearling sale in Lexington, Kentucky by Gene Cashman, a Chicago native who established a large Thoroughbred racing stable.
