Boj Na Kosovu
''Battle of Kosovo'' ( sh-Cyrl-Latn, Бој на Косову, Boj na Kosovu) is a 1989 Yugoslav historical drama/war film filmed in Serbia. The film was based on the drama written by poet Ljubomir Simović. It depicts the historical Battle of Kosovo between Medieval Serbia and the Ottoman Empire which took place on 15 June 1389 (according to the Julian calendar, 28 June 1389 by the Gregorian calendar) in a field about 5 kilometers northwest of Pristina. Serbian Duke Lazar in 1389 refuses to obey the Turk Sultan Murat who intends on invading Serbia with an army in order to conquer Europe. Although aware that he is weaker, without enough men, Duke Lazar decides to fight him anyway. The Serbian Lords are not united. Most of them want to fight, even at the cost of defeat, but some of them do not. Everyone fit for battle is sent to Kosovo. Zdravko Šotra
Zdravko Šotra ( sr-cyr, Здравко Шотра; born 13 February 1933) is a Serbian film and television director and screenwriter. He is known for directing the films ''Zona Zamfirova'', ''Boj na Kosovu'', '' Šešir profesora Vujića'', ''Santa Maria della Salute'' among others, as well as television mini-series. Early life Šotra was born in the village of Kozice, near Stolac (modern Bosnia and Herzegovina), into an ethnic Serb family as the seventh child of Mara and Đorđe Šotra. As a young child his family moved to Kosovo just prior to the outbreak of World War II, where he would grow up. Career Šotra graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, University of Arts in Belgrade with a degree in film directing. He began his professional career at TV Belgrade, working there since its inception. His film ''Zona Zamfirova'' (2002) was watched by a record 1.2 million people in Serbia. Gazimestan
Gazimestan (, , ) is the name of a memorial site and monument commemorating the Battle of Kosovo (1389), situated about 6-7 kilometres southeast of the actual battlefield, known as the Kosovo field. The name is a portmanteau derived from Arabic '' ghazi'', meaning "hero" or "champion", and Serbian word ''mesto'', meaning "place". Gazimestan is reached from the Pristina– Mitrovica highway, on a 50-metre hill above the plain, ca. 5 km north-west from Pristina. Every year, on ''Vidovdan'' (St. Vitus Day), 28 June, a commemoration is held by the monument, which in later years is also covered by an image of Prince Lazar, who led the Christian army at the battle. Neda Arnerić ( sr-cyr, Неда Арнерић; 15 July 1953 – 10 January 2020) was a Serbian film, stage and television actress, and politician. A graduate art historian, she was considered a sex symbol of Yugoslav cinematography. Personal life Neda Arnerić was born in Knjaževac. Her mother was an ethnic Serb, whilst her father was an ethnic Croat, who worked as military doctor, born on the island of Korčula. Her grandfather was from Rovinj, where she often spent summers. In 1980 she graduated from the University of Belgrade Faculty of Philosophy with a degree in Art History. In 1981 she married Serbian physician, Milorad Mešterović, who died in December 2018. They had no children. In February 2019, her brother Predrag found her unconscious, whereupon she spent 40 days at the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade. On 10 January 2020, she died aged 66. Kosovo Maiden
The Kosovo Maiden or Maiden of the Blackbird Field ( sr, Косовка девојка / ) is the central figure of a poem with the same name, part of the Kosovo cycle in the Serbian epic poetry. In it, a young beauty searches the battlefield for her betrothed fiancé and helps wounded Serbian warriors with water, wine and bread after the Battle of Kosovo in 1389 between Serbia and the Ottoman Empire. She finally finds the wounded and dying warrior Pavle Orlović who tells her that her fiancé Milan Toplica and his blood-brothers Miloš Obilić and Ivan Kosančić are dead. Before the battle they had given her a cloak, golden ring and veil for the wedding as a promise of safe return, but they were slain and Pavle pointed to the direction of the bodies. Bayezid), also known as Bayezid the Thunderbolt ( ota, link=no, یلدیرم بايزيد, tr, Yıldırım Bayezid, link=no; – 8 March 1403) was the Ottoman Sultan from 1389 to 1402. Murad I ( ota, مراد اول; tr, I. Murad, Murad-ı Hüdavendigâr (nicknamed ''Hüdavendigâr'', from fa, خداوندگار, translit=Khodāvandgār, lit=the devotee of God – meaning "sovereign" in this context); 29 June 1326 – 15 June 1389) was the Ottoman Sultan from 1362 to 1389. Miloš Obilić
Miloš Obilić ( sr-cyr, Милош Обилић, ) was a legendary Serbian knight who is reputed to have been in the service of Prince Lazar during the Ottoman invasion of Serbia in the late 14th century. He is not mentioned in contemporary sources, but features prominently in later accounts of the 1389 Battle of Kosovo as the assassin of Sultan Murad. Although the assassin remains anonymous in sources until the late 15th century, the dissemination of the story of Murad's assassination in Florentine, Serbian, Ottoman and Greek sources suggests that versions of it circulated widely across the Balkans within half a century of the event. It is not certain whether Obilić actually existed, but Lazar's family – strengthening their political control – "gave birth to the myth of Kosovo", including the story of Obilić. Vuk Branković ( sr-cyr, Вук Бранковић, , 1345 – 6 October 1397) was a Serbian medieval nobleman who, during the Fall of the Serbian Empire, inherited a province that extended over present-day southern and southwestern Serbia, entire Kosovo, the northern part of present day Republic of North Macedonia, and northern Montenegro.
