Boise Yankees
The Boise Yankees were a minor league baseball team in the western United States, based in Boise, Idaho. They played in the Class C Pioneer League in 1952 and 1953 as an affiliate of the New York Yankees, and their home venue was Joe Devine Airway Park, named for the late Yankee scout Joe Devine in 1952. History The team was previously known as the unaffiliated Boise Pilots from 1939 to 1951 (except for three years during World War II when the league did not operate), while the Yankees' affiliates in the Pioneer League were previously the Twin Falls Cowboys (1946–51) and the Idaho Falls Russets (1940–41). The Yankees pulled out of the Pioneer League and the western U.S. after the 1953 season. The Boise team's name reverted to Pilots for 1954, then was the Boise Braves (affiliated with the Milwaukee Braves) from 1955 to 1963. Bob Martyn
Robert Gordon Martyn (August 15, 1930 – December 2, 2015) was a right fielder in Major League Baseball who played for the Kansas City Athletics in parts of three seasons spanning 1957–1959. Listed at 6' 0", 176 lb., Martyn batted left-handed and threw right-handed. He was born in Weiser, Idaho. College career Martyn was an alumnus of Linfield College, where his father Bernard Martyn, aunt Lillian Turner Millsap, uncle Bill Turner and niece Lois Molyneux also attended. Martyn's first year at Linfield was 1948, which he attended not only because much of his family went there, but also because it was affiliated with the Baptist church he went to. Although Martyn played shortstop at high school in Twin Falls, Idaho, his baseball coach Henry Lever, after noting Martyn's bowlegs, immediately changed his position to outfielder. John Phillip James (born July 23, 1933) is a former Major League Baseball relief pitcher who played for the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels between and . James was originally signed by the Yankees in . He batted left-handed but threw right-handed, and he was , 160 pounds. He attended the University of Southern California. He played only one game in his debut season, 1958. Appearing in relief for Art Ditmar (who had given up seven earned runs in six innings of work) on September 6, James pitched three innings of scoreless baseball, walking four batters and striking out one. He also had one at-bat in that game, and struck out. He did not play in the major leagues in 1959, but he did appear in 28 games in relief for the Yankees in 1960.
