Bogusław Mamiński
Bogusław Mamiński (born 18 December 1955 in Kamień Pomorski) is a retired long-distance runner from Poland, known for winning the silver medal in the men's 3,000m Steeplechase event at the 1982 European Championships in Athens, Greece. He did the same one year later at the inaugural World Championships. Mamiński set his personal best (8:09.18) in the event on 24 August 1984 at a meet in Brussels, Belgium. 1981 Pacific Conference Games
The 1981 Pacific Conference Games was the fourth edition of the international athletics competition between five Pacific coast nations: Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and the United States. This was the first occasion that athletes from beyond the Pacific grouping were allowed to compete at the tournament. A total of 21 men's and 16 women's athletics events were contested. Combined track and field events were included for the first time, in the form of the men's decathlon and the women's pentathlon. The women's 3000 metres was also a new addition to the programme. It was held at Queen Elizabeth II Park on 31 January and 1 February in Christchurch, New Zealand. The host stadium was built for and hosted 1974 British Commonwealth Games. These are the official results of the athletics competition at the 1986 Goodwill Games which took place between July 5 and 9, 1986, at the Moscow Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Soviet Union. Most of the running events had so many entrants that several heats had to be held with the combined results deciding on the medals (the sole exception was women's 100 metres hurdles where both heats and the final were held). This caused some controversy as the Soviets entered some of their better athletes in a theoretically weaker heat, possibly to avoid direct competition with the best rivals. This proved effective in the men's 1500 metres where Pavel Yakovlev ran in the first heat virtually unobstructed and paced by his teammate and eventually recorded a better time than the winner of the more tactical second heat featuring most of the favorites.
