Boggan-Hammond House and Alexander Little Wing is a historic home located at Wadesboro, Anson County, North Carolina. The original section was built about 1787, and is a restored one-story frame Federal style structure. The house was built by Captain Patrick Boggan, a Revolutionary War veteran who was one of the founders of the town of Wadesboro, for his daughter, Nellie. A two-story frame wing was added in 1839. In the 20th century the original house was separated from the wing and placed behind it. The buildings were opened to the public as house museums in 1970. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Wadesboro is a town in Anson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,049 at the 2020 census. The town was originally found in 1783 as New Town but changed by the North Carolina General Assembly to Wadesboro in 1787 to honor Colonel Thomas Wade, a native son, state legislator, and Revolutionary War commander of the Anson County Regiment. It is the county seat of Anson County. History Originally named Newtown, the town was renamed by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1787 to honor of Colonel Thomas Wade after his service with the Anson County Regiment of militia in the American Revolutionary War. In 1900, astronomers determined that Wadesboro would be the best location in North America for viewing a total solar eclipse. Anson County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,055. Its county seat is Wadesboro. History The county was formed in 1750 from Bladen County. It was named for George Anson, Baron Anson, a British admiral, who circumnavigated the globe from 1740 to 1744, and later became First Lord of the Admiralty. Anson purchased land in the state. Like its parent county Bladen being occupied by Native American tribes(Waccamaw people), Anson County was originally occupied by Catawba Siouan tribe as a vast territory with indefinite northern and western boundaries.
