Boechera Perennans
''Boechera perennans'' is a species of rockcress known as perennial rockcress. It is native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. This rockcress forms several erect stems reaching past half a meter in height at maximum. The basal leaves may be several centimeters long and are hairy and often toothed, while the scattered upper leaves are smaller. Toward the top of the stem are small widely spaced purple or pink-purple flowers on long, thin stalks. These give way to the fruits, which are siliques: long, very narrow pods up to 6 centimeters long. Sereno Watson
Sereno Watson (December 1, 1826 in East Windsor Hill, Connecticut – March 9, 1892 in Cambridge, Massachusetts) was an American botanist. Graduating from Yale in 1847 in Biology, he drifted through various occupations until, in California, he joined the Clarence King Expedition and eventually became its expedition botanist. Appointed by Asa Gray as assistant in the Gray Herbarium of Harvard University in 1873, he later became its curator, a position he maintained until his death. Watson was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1874, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences in 1889. William Alfred Weber
William Alfred Weber (November 16, 1918 – March 18, 2020) was an American botanist and lichenologist. He was Professor Emeritus at the University of Colorado at Boulder and former curator of the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History, University of Colorado Museum Herbarium (Index Herbariorum designation COLO). Biography William Alfred Weber was born on November 16, 1918, and grew up in New York City. He earned his Master's in 1942 and PhD in 1945, both at Washington State University and began teaching at Colorado in 1946. In 2018 he was awarded a lifetime achievement award from the American Bryological and Lichenological Society (ABLS). He died on March 18, 2020 in Longmont, Colorado. Boechera
''Boechera'' (rockcress) is a genus of the family Brassicaceae. It was named after the Danish botanist Tyge W. Böcher (1909–1983), who was known for his research in alpine plants, including the mustards ''Draba'' and ''Boechera holboellii''. According to recent molecular-based studies, ''Boechera'' is closely related to the genus ''Arabidopsis'' which also includes the widely known model plant ''Arabidopsis thaliana''. Until recently, members of this genus were included in the genus ''Arabis'', but have been separated from that genus based on recent genetic and cytological data. Unlike the genus ''Arabis'' (x=8) ''Boechera'' has a base chromosome number of x=7. Many taxa are triploid. ''Boechera'' is a primarily North American genus, most diverse in the western United States, and its distribution range also includes Greenland and the Russian Far East. Silique
A silique or siliqua (plural ''siliques'' or ''siliquae'') is a type of fruit (seed capsule) having two fused carpels with the length being more than three times the width. When the length is less than three times the width of the dried fruit it is referred to as a silicle. The outer walls of the ovary (the ''valves'') usually separate when ripe, then being named ''dehiscent'', and leaving a persistent partition (the ''replum''). ''Siliques'' are present in many members of the mustard family, Brassicaceae, but some species have ''silicles'' instead. Some species closely related to plants with true ''siliques'' have fruits with a similar structure that do not open when ripe; these are usually called ''indehiscent siliques'' (compare dehiscence).
