Bodacious DF
''Bodacious DF'' is a 1973 rock music, rock album, the only release by the short-lived band of the same name. After leaving Jefferson Airplane in 1971, founder Marty Balin produced an album by the band Grootna in 1972. He then formed the band Bodacious DF with Grootna members Vic Smith and Greg Dewey (also from Country Joe & the Fish), as well as Mark Ryan (from Quicksilver Messenger Service) and Charlie Hickox. The band broke up shortly after the album was released; Balin joined Jefferson Starship in 1975, and frequently performed the Bodacious songs "The Witcher" and "Driving Me Crazy". Hickox and Smith collaborated with him on songs for Jefferson Starship's album ''Spitfire (Jefferson Starship album), Spitfire'' (1976), and Greg Dewey's brother Nicholas Dewey wrote a song for ''Earth (Jefferson Starship album), Earth'' (1978). The Record Plant is a recording studio established in New York City in 1968 and currently operating in Los Angeles, California. Known for innovations in the recording artists' workspace, it has produced highly influential albums, including Blondie's ''Parallel Lines'', Metallica's '' Load'' and '' Reload'', the Eagles' ''Hotel California'', Fleetwood Mac's '' Rumours'', Eminem's ''The Marshall Mathers LP'', Guns N' Roses' ''Appetite for Destruction,'' and Kanye West's ''The College Dropout''. Sausalito
Sausalito (Spanish for "small willow grove") is a city in Marin County, California, United States, located southeast of Marin City, south-southeast of San Rafael, and about north of San Francisco from the Golden Gate Bridge. Sausalito's population was 7,269 as of the 2020 census. Jefferson Airplane
Jefferson Airplane was an American rock band based in San Francisco, California, that became one of the pioneering bands of psychedelic rock. Formed in 1965, the group defined the San Francisco Sound and was the first from the Bay Area to achieve international commercial success. They headlined the Monterey Pop Festival (1967), Woodstock (1969), Altamont Free Concert (1969), and the first Isle of Wight Festival (1968) in England. Martyn Jerel Buchwald (January 30, 1942 – September 27, 2018), known as Marty Balin (), was an American singer, songwriter, and musician best known as the founder/leader and one of the lead singers and songwriters of Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship. Early life Balin was born Martyn Jerel Buchwald in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Catherine Eugenia "Jean" (née Talbot) and Joseph Buchwald. His paternal grandparents emigrated from Eastern Europe. His father was Jewish and his mother was Episcopalian. Buchwald attended Washington High School in San Francisco, California. As a child, Balin was diagnosed with autism. Quicksilver Messenger Service
Quicksilver Messenger Service is an American psychedelic rock band formed in 1965 in San Francisco. The band achieved wide popularity in the San Francisco Bay Area and, through their recordings, with psychedelic rock enthusiasts around the globe, and several of their albums ranked in the Top 30 of the Billboard Pop charts. They were part of the new wave of album-oriented bands, achieving renown and popularity despite a lack of success with their singles (only one, "Fresh Air" charted, reaching number 49 in 1970). Though not as commercially successful as contemporaries Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead, Quicksilver was integral to the beginnings of their genre. Jefferson Starship
Jefferson Starship is an American rock band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1974 by a group of musicians including former members of Jefferson Airplane. Between 1974 and 1984, they released eight gold or platinum-selling studio albums, and one gold-selling compilation. The album ''Red Octopus'' went double-platinum, reaching No. 1 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart in 1975. The band went through several major changes in personnel and genres through the years while retaining the Jefferson Starship name. The band name was retired in 1984, but it was picked up again in 1992 by a revival of the group led by Paul Kantner, which has continued since his death in 2016. ''Spitfire'' is the third album by American rock band Jefferson Starship. Released in 1976, a year after the chart-topping ''Red Octopus'', it quickly scaled the charts, peaking for six consecutive weeks at No. 3 in ''Billboard'' and attaining a RIAA platinum certification. The album features writing contributions from members of singer Marty Balin's former band Bodacious DF, as well as Jesse Barish, who became one of Balin's frequent collaborators. Earth (Jefferson Starship Album)
''Earth'' is the fourth album by American rock band Jefferson Starship. The album was recorded in 1977, with the same band lineup as the previous album, ''Spitfire'' and released in 1978. The band had not toured in 1977, partly due to Marty Balin's reluctance to commit to the band. The song " Count on Me" became a Top 10 single, peaking at No. 8. The album hit No. 5 on the ''Billboard'' charts. A US and European tour followed. A riot in West Germany occurred after the band decided not to play without Grace Slick, who was inebriated. They lost their guitars and equipment during the riot and played one more tense show on West German TV in Hamburg, after which Slick left the band for one album. Marty Balin led the band for one more show at a Genesis concert at the Knebworth Festival in England using rented equipment.
