Whistler Sliding Centre
The Whistler Sliding Centre (french: link=no, Centre des sports de glisse de Whistler) is a Canadian bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track located in Whistler, British Columbia, that is north of Vancouver. The centre is part of the Whistler Blackcomb resort, which comprises two ski mountains separated by Fitzsimmons Creek. Located on the lowermost slope of the northern mountain (Blackcomb Mountain), Whistler Sliding Centre hosted the bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton competitions for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Design work started in late 2004 with construction taking place from June 2005 to December 2007. Bobsledders Pierre Lueders and Justin Kripps of Canada took the first run on the track on 19 December 2007. Lyndon Rush
Lyndon Rush (born November 24, 1980) is a Canadian retired bobsledder who has competed since 2004. Rush took up bobsleigh after spending five years playing Canadian football for the University of Saskatchewan. He initially trained as a brakeman before switching to driving due to a hamstring injury. Rush won a bronze medal in the four-man event at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He won the silver medal in the mixed bobsleigh- skeleton team event at the 2008 FIBT World Championships in Altenberg, Germany. Born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Rush made his first breakthroughs in bobsleigh during the 2009–10 Bobsleigh World Cup winning the opening four-man event in Park City, Utah. Beat Hefti
Beat Hefti (born 3 February 1978) is a Swiss bobsledder who has competed since the late 1990s. Competing in four Winter Olympics, he has won a total of four Olympic medals. A gold medal in Sochi ( two-man, 2014), two bronze medals in Torino ( two-man and four-man, 2006) and another bronze medal in Salt Lake City ( two-man, 2002). Hefti has also won four medals at the World Championships with one gold (Four-man: 2007), one silver (Four-man: 1999), and two bronzes (Two-man: 2001, 2005). Elana Meyers Taylor (born Elana Alessandra Meyers; October 10, 1984) is an American Olympic bobsledder and World Champion who has competed since 2007. Born in Oceanside, California, Meyers Taylor was raised in Douglasville, Georgia and is a graduate of The George Washington University, where she was a member of the softball team. Erin Pac (born May 30, 1980) is a former American bobsledder who competed from 2002 to 2010. She won two medals in the mixed bobsled-skeleton team event at the FIBT World Championships with a silver in 2007 and a bronze in 2008. A native of Farmington, Connecticut and now living in Milford, Connecticut, Pac earned a degree in rehabilitation and disabilities studies with a concentration in rehabilitation counseling from Springfield College in Massachusetts. Shelley-Ann Brown
Shelley-Ann Camille Brown (born March 15, 1980) is a former Canadian bobsledder who has competed since 2006. She was born in Scarborough, Ontario to Jamaican immigrant parents, and also raised in nearby Pickering, Ontario. Brown was recruited to the University of Nebraska on a track and field scholarship, and graduated with a degree in biology and a master's in educational psychology. Helen Upperton
Helen Lesley Upperton (born October 31, 1979) is a Canadian bobsledder who has competed since 2002. Upperton was born in Ahmadi, Kuwait as her parents involvement in the oil industry meant they traveled abroad. She holds dual citizenship of both Great Britain and Canada. Upperton won the silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics after previously finishing fourth in the two-woman event at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. Heather Moyse
Heather Moyse (born July 23, 1978) is a Canadian athlete and two-time Olympic gold medalist, representing Canada in international competition as a bobsledder, rugby union player, and track cyclist and competing at the Canadian intercollegiate level in rugby, soccer and track and field. Awards Moyse was a two-time Female Athlete of the Year at Three Oaks Senior High School in Summerside, Prince Edward Island where she competed in soccer, basketball, rugby and track and field. A graduate of the University of Waterloo kinesiology program, she was inducted into that school's Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. Kaillie Humphries
Kaillie Humphries (born Kaillie Simundson; September 4, 1985) is a Canadian-American bobsledder. Representing Canada, she was the 2010 and 2014 Olympic champion in the two-woman bobsled and the 2018 Olympic bronze medalist with brakewoman Phylicia George. With her victory in 2014, she became the first female bobsledder to defend her Olympic title and was named flagbearer for the Olympic closing ceremony with brakewoman Heather Moyse. Humphries was one of the first women to pilot a mixed-gender team in a four-person bobsled competition. She was also the first woman to drive an all-female team against men in a four-person World Cup bobsled race.
