Boboshevo
Boboshevo ( bg, Бобошево ) is a town in Western Bulgaria. It is located in Kyustendil Province and is close to the towns of Kocherinovo and Rila. The town of Boboshevo is situated around to the south of Sofia and from Bulgaria's prime skiing destination, Bansko. Approximately 4 km away from Boboshevo is the main road that connects Sofia with the Greek border. Boboshevo lies in the lowest part of the southwestern ridge of the Rila Mountains, in the fertile valley of the Struma River (where it meets with the German River). Thanks to its favourable location and mild climate, the area of Boboshevo has been populated since antiquity. The Boboshevo region is known also as the 'Bulgarian Jerusalem' along with the region of Ohrid due to its role of a cultural centre during the 15th to the 17th century. Church Of St Theodore, Boboshevo
The Church of Saint Theodore ( bg, Църква Свети Тодор) is a Middle Ages, Medieval Bulgarian Church (building), church near the town of Boboshevo, Kyustendil Province. Location, history, architectural and artistic features The church is situated at 2 km to the north of Boboshevo on a hill on the right bank of the Struma River in the locality of ''Selishte''. It is a cross-domed church; its length is 7,40 m and the width is 6,21 m. The semi-round apse has a long and narrow window. The dome used to be on a cylinder and had four windows. The church was constructed with stones while the dome and the arcs were made of bricks. In the dome some of the brick layers plastered up creating an effective decoration. On the walls two layers of frescoes have been preserved. The frescoes from the earlier layer are destroyed and those from the second one are precious works of the Medieval Bulgarian painting. The Church of St Athanasius ( bg, Църква Свети Атанасий) is a late Medieval Bulgarian church in the town of Boboshevo, Kyustendil Province. Location, history, architectural and artistic values The church is situated on a large platform in the cemetery in the small town of Boboshevo. It is a small one nave church with a semi-round apse. It is 8 m long and 5 m wide. There are two niches on the left and the right walls and another small semi-round niche on the northern niche. The church used to have a vault which was replaced with eaves during the reconstruction. A covered narthex was added in the 18th century and in 1926-1927 a new narthex with refectory was constructed. The walls of the church are 0,70 m thick and are made of stone. The church was fully painted from the inside and the western facade was painted from the outside as well according to the canon. The Church of St Demetrius ( bg, Църква Свети Димитър) is a Bulgarian Church (building), church dating from the Late Middle Ages near the town of Boboshevo, Kyustendil Province. Location, history, architectural and artistic features The church is situated at 4 km from the small town of Boboshevo. It is a small one-nave edifice with internal dimension of 4,15 m to 2,66 m and height of 5,50 m. It has a semi-round apse which is 1,38 m wide and 0,70 m deep. On the eastern side to the left of the apse there is a semi-round niche (0,45 x 0,52 x 0,37 m) and on the northern side - a rectangular one (0,20 x 0,20 x 0,25 m). The entrance is to the west and is 1,85 m high and 1,25 m wide. The vault is semi-cylindrical. A narthex was added in 1864 with entrance to the north and five arched windows. Church Of St Elijah, Boboshevo
The Church of St Elijah ( bg, Църква Свети Илия) is a late Medieval Bulgarian church in the town of Boboshevo, Kyustendil Province. Location, history, architectural and artistic features The church was constructed in 1687. It is located in the eastern part of Boboshevo, near the ''Byalata Prast'' locality. It is a small one nave and one apse church with a length of 7,20 m and width of 5,30 m without the apse. The eastern facade has an arched niche and the western - three niches. The church was constructed of stones with plaster. Large part of the frescoes which used to cover the whole interior has been preserved. The earlier frescoes (on the vault and the upper sections walls) date from the 17th century, and the later from 1898 according to the ''ktitor'' inscription above the apse niche. The Church of the Holy Mother of God ( bg, Църква Света Богородица) a Bulgarian National Revival church in the town of Boboshevo, Kyustendil Province. Location, history, architectural and artistic features The church is situated in the center of Boboshevo. It is considered among the most beautiful National Revival churches in the Kyustendil Province, western Bulgaria. It has an unusual architecture which resembles the Rila Monastery. It is built by carved stone with brick layers and in the interior there are ten columns. It is a three nave basilica. The church is 24 m long, 8 m wide and 10 m high. The roof is covered with tiles. In the interior there is a second floor which forms the female compartment which can contain 150 people, while on the first floor the church can hold more than 650 worshipers. Skrino
Skrino ( bg, Скрино) is a village in the municipality of Boboshevo, Kyustendil Province, western Bulgaria. As of 2013 it has 66 inhabitants. In architecture, a vault (French ''voûte'', from Italian ''volta'') is a self-supporting arched form, usually of stone or brick, serving to cover a space with a ceiling or roof. A hermit, also known as an eremite (adjectival form: hermitic or eremitic) or solitary, is a person who lives in seclusion. Eremitism plays a role in a variety of religions. Ivan Rilski
Saint John of Rila, a.k.a. Ivan of Rila (Bulgarian: Свети преподобни Йоан Рилски Чудотворец, Svеti prеpodobni Yoan Rilski Chudotvorеts; English: Saint (monk) John of Rila the Wondermaker) (876 – c. 946) was the first Bulgarian hermit. He was revered as a saint while he was still alive. The legend surrounding him tells of wild animals that freely came up to him and birds that landed in his hands. His followers founded many churches in his honor, including the famous Rila Monastery. One of these churches, Saint John of Rila was only discovered in 2008 in the town of Veliko Tarnovo.
