Bobby Flavell (Scottish Footballer)
Robert Wilson Flavell (1 September 1921 – 18 March 2005) was a Scottish association football, football player and manager (association football), manager. His senior playing career, which was delayed by the Second World War, had its high point at Dundee F.C., Dundee, where he won two Scottish League Cup winners' medals in consecutive years. Flavell won two caps for the Scotland national football team, both in 1947. He later became a manager of Ayr United F.C., Ayr United, St Mirren F.C., St Mirren and Albion Rovers F.C., Albion Rovers. Playing career Flavell was born in Annathill, North Lanarkshire in 1921. He joined the senior game by signing for Airdrieonians F.C. (1878), Airdrie in 1937 as a teenager, but only played two seasons before the war broke out; he had to wait until the 1946–47 in Scottish football, 1946–47 season to make another league appearance. Annathill
Annathill () is a small village located near Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, although closer to Glenboig. The name "Annathill" is thought to be derived from a patron saint's church. Annathill is on the banks of the Mollins Burn, a tributary of the Luggie Water. History Annathill was primarily famous for coal, as it was home to Bedlay Colliery. The majority of miners from Bedlay Colliery came from Annathill and there were three "Miners' Rows" of houses along with various shops, a butchers and a pub which were all built around the same time Bedlay Colliery was sunk in 1905. On 11 December 1981, Bedlay Colliery was closed by the then Conservative government and was left abandoned until 1982 when it was filled in (or "capped") and the complex demolished. Motherwell F
Motherwell ( sco, Mitherwall, gd, Tobar na Màthar) is a town and former burgh in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, south east of Glasgow. It has a population of around 32,120. Historically in the parish of Dalziel and part of Lanarkshire, Motherwell is the headquarters for North Lanarkshire Council. Geographically the River Clyde separates Motherwell from Hamilton to the west whereas the South Calder Water separates Motherwell from Carfin to the north-east and New Stevenston and Bellshill towards the north. David McLean (3 February 1884 – 14 February 1951) was a Scottish association footballer and manager. McLean played as a Winger. Player McLean was born in Buckhaven, Fife. He played for Buckhaven United, Cambuslang Rangers, Celtic, Ayr United and Cowdenbeath. He first joined East Fife in 1911 as player-manager. Manager East Fife and Bristol Rovers After joining East Fife as player manager he led them to victory in the Scottish Qualifying Cup Final in 1920-21. East Fife were admitted to the Scottish Football League in 1921 and reached the 1927 Scottish Cup Final. McLean was appointed manager of Bristol Rovers in 1929. He left after just over a year. He and returned to East Fife in 1931. McLean led them to victory over Kilmarnock in the 1938 Scottish Cup Final. The Scottish Football League (SFL) was a league featuring professional and semi-professional football clubs mostly from Scotland.One club, Berwick Rangers, is based in the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which is located approximately 4 km south of the Anglo-Scottish border.
