Barbara Ann "Bobbi" Martin (November 29, 1939 – May 2, 2000) was an American country music, country and pop music singer, songwriter, and guitarist. She grew up in Oslo, Minnesota and began her singing career in Baltimore, working her way up from local venues onto the national nightclub circuit. Martin was born to Virginia Chaney (1919-1971) and an unknown father. Her mother refused to tell her the name of her birth father, something that haunted Bobbi her entire life. When Martin was 5, her mother married Allen C. Paulson (1920-1983) in Temple, Texas, whom she met while they were both in the military, and the family lived in his hometown of Oslo, Minnesota, on the North Dakota border. Bobbi-Jo Slusar (born June 6, 1985) is a Canadian ice hockey player. Born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Slusar was a member of the Canada women's national ice hockey team from 2006 to 2008. Currently, she played for the Brampton Thunder in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) and competed in the 2010 Clarkson Cup. During the 2010–11 season, she competed for the Strathmore Rockies of the WWHL. She was drafted 9th overall by the Team Alberta CWHL in the 2011 CWHL Draft. She was a lifelong campaigner for Indigenous land rights in Australia, Indigenous land rights, as well as human rights and women's rights. Early life and education Born Roberta Barkley Patterson in Townsville, Queensland, sometime in the 1940s, Sykes was raised by her white mother, Rachel Patterson, and never knew her father. Sykes says in her autobiography that his identity is unknown, and her mother told her a number of different accounts about her father; variously that he was Fijian, Papuan, African-American, and Native American. The most consistent and plausible version was that he was African-American soldier stationed in Australia during World War Two.
