Bob Witz
Bob Witz (August 9, 1934 - February 23, 2021) was an American artist, poet and writer. He was born in Tomah, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1959. He was founder and editor of the literary arts magazine, APPEARANCES. Tomah, Wisconsin
Tomah is a city in Monroe County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 9,570 as of the 2020 census. The city is surrounded by the Town of Tomah and the Town of La Grange. History Tomah was founded by Robert E. Gillett in 1855 and incorporated as a city in 1883, but the charter was not issued until 1894. It is named after Thomas Carron (ca. 1752–1817), a trader at Green Bay who had integrated into the Menominee tribe. The Menominees pronounced the name ''Tomah'' or ''Tomau'' and he became known as Chief Tomah. ''Tomah'' was adopted as the name for the settlement in Monroe County on the unsubstantiated belief that Chief Tomah had once held a tribal gathering in the area. In 1891, construction began in Tomah for a Native American residential school funded by the federal government. Robert Pincus-Witten
Robert Pincus-Witten (April 5, 1935 – January 28, 2018) was an American art critic, curator and art historian. Biography Born in New York City, Pincus-Witten earned his undergraduate degree at The Cooper Union, in New York City in 1956. He wrote his master's degree (1962) and Ph.D. (1968) both at the University of Chicago. His dissertation, on Joséphin Péladan and the Salon de la Rose + Croix was written under Joshua Taylor and John Rewald. Pincus-Witten joined the City University of New York in 1964. In 1970 he was promoted to professor at CUNY. Pincus-Witten retired from CUNY in 1990. In 1966 he began writing criticism for Artforum magazine as its senior editor. He became associate editor of Artforum in 1976. An initial book on minimalism and the era following it was issued in 1977.
