The National Party of Australia (WA) Inc, branded The Nationals WA, is a political party in Western Australia. It is affiliated with the National Party of Australia but maintains a separate structure and identity. Since the 2021 state election, the Nationals WA is the senior party in an opposition alliance with the WA Liberal Party in the WA Parliament. Prior to the election, the National Party was sitting in the crossbench and the Liberal Party was the sole opposition party. The election resulted in the National Party winning more seats than the Liberal Party and gaining official opposition status. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state. The Parliament sits in Parliament House in the Western Australian capital, Perth. The Legislative Assembly today has 59 members, elected for four-year terms from single-member electoral districts. Members are elected using the preferential voting system. As with all other Australian states and territories, voting is compulsory for all Australian citizens over the legal voting age of 18. Electoral District Of Wagin
Wagin was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia. It was in existence from 1911 to 1950 and from 1989 to 2017. The seat was named after the town of Wagin and incorporated portions of the Wheatbelt, albeit with varying boundaries. Wagin was a safe seat for the National Party for most of its existence. History Wagin was first created for the 1911 state election. Until 1947, its member was Sydney Stubbs who represented several different conservative parties over that time. Stubbs was succeeded by Crawford Nalder, who would later become Country Party leader. Wagin was abolished ahead of the 1950 state election whence Nalder instead became the member for Katanning. Wagin was recreated at the 1989 state election. The first member of the recreated seat was National MP Bob Wiese, formerly the member for Narrogin; the district that Wagin largely replaced. Cambell Nalder
Cambell Crawford Nalder (20 December 1937 – 14 March 1987) was an Australian politician who served as a National Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1986 to 1987, representing the seat of Narrogin. The son of Crawford Nalder, who later served as the state's Deputy Premier, Nalder was born in Wagin, a small town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. Like his father, he went on to board at Wesley College, Perth, graduating in 1954. Nalder was elected to parliament at the 1986 state election, but died of cancer in March 1987, aged 49, having served just over a year. His death necessitated a by-election, which was won by National Party candidate Bob Wiese. Terrence Keith "Terry" Waldron (born 17 February 1951) is an Australian politician. He was a The Nationals member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 2001 to 2017, representing the electorate of Wagin. Waldron was born in Subiaco grew up on his family farm in Jingalup near Kojonup and attended the local primary school before going to boarding school at Hale School in Perth After completing his high school education Waldron briefly returned to the family farm for a year before moving back to Perth to work in the insurance industry and further his football and cricket career. He played 29 games for the Claremont Football Club in the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL), and later 17 games for the South Adelaide Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL).
