Bob Tomalski
Bob Tomalski (7 February 1953 – 13 January 2001), was a journalist, "gadget guru", broadcaster and longtime proponent of radio broadcasting freedom. He founded ''Home Cinema Choice'' magazine and contributed to many other magazines on the subjects of TV, video, satellite TV, mobile phones and camcorders. He also appeared regularly on Sky News' weekly ''Technofile'' programme, reviewing gadgets alongside presenter Martin Stanford and was a regular contributor to ''Media Network'', a communications magazine on the English service of Radio Netherlands. Career Tomalski started his broadcasting career on the south west London pirate scene of the 1970s, when he was the host of ''Roger Tate's Mailbox Show'' on European Music Radio, and later became a licensed amateur radio operator with the call sign G6CQF. FM Radio
FM broadcasting is a method of radio broadcasting using frequency modulation (FM). Invented in 1933 by American engineer Edwin Armstrong, wide-band FM is used worldwide to provide high fidelity sound over broadcast radio. FM broadcasting is capable of higher fidelity—that is, more accurate reproduction of the original program sound—than other broadcasting technologies, such as AM broadcasting. Steve Walsh (disc Jockey)
Steve Walsh (20 September 1958 – 3 July 1988) was a British disc jockey. He died on July 3, 1988 while in Ibiza, Spain. Life and career Walsh began his radio career at the first soul music pirate radio station, Radio Invicta, alongside his friend, Bob Tomalski. From there he moved on to JFM, a London soul pirate station. Walsh also guested on Dave Brown's soul show once a month on BBC Radio Medway, which later became BBC Radio Kent. He then decided that if he was to further his career he would have to be completely legal, and leave pirate radio. An opportunity came up at the new independent local radio station, County Sound in Guildford. He returned to London with the launch of Radio London's ''Soul Night Out''. At the same time he was approached by Capital Radio, having covered one Saturday on Greg Edwards's ''Soul Spectrum'' when Edwards was ill. Radio Invicta (London Pirate Station)
Radio Invicta was a pirate radio station that broadcast to London, and was the first of its kind to specialise in playing soul music. It broadcast from December 1970 to July 1984, and was known by its slogan ''Soul over London'' and considered itself "Europe's first and only all soul station". BBC Radio is an operational business division and service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (which has operated in the United Kingdom under the terms of a royal charter since 1927). The service provides national radio stations covering the majority of musical genres, as well as local radio stations covering local news, affairs and interests. ''You and Yours'' is a British radio consumer affairs programme, broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and produced by BBC News. History ''You and Yours'' began broadcasting in October 1970, when its first presenter was Joan York. In the 1980s it briefly ran seven days a week. In April 1998 it was increased from a 25-minute programme to 55 minutes. However, in 2014 the running time was reduced to approximately 40 minutes to make space for Radio 4's World War I drama ''Home Front'' which went out between 12.04 and 12.15. In the months when ''Home Front'' was not broadcast a different programme took its place and ''You and Yours'' continued to begin at 12.15. BBC Micro
The British Broadcasting Corporation Microcomputer System, or BBC Micro, is a series of microcomputers and associated peripherals designed and built by Acorn Computers in the 1980s for the BBC Computer Literacy Project. Designed with an emphasis on education, it was notable for its ruggedness, expandability, and the quality of its operating system. An accompanying 1982 television series, '' The Computer Programme'', featuring Chris Serle learning to use the machine, was broadcast on BBC2. After the Literacy Project's call for bids for a computer to accompany the TV programmes and literature, Acorn won the contract with the ''Proton'', a successor of its Atom computer prototyped at short notice.
