Bob Smith (born March 25, 1947) is an American Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party politician, who has been serving in the New Jersey New Jersey Senate, State Senate since 2002, where he represents the New Jersey's 17th legislative district, 17th Legislative District. Smith was elected to his first Senate term in November 2001 to fill the seat vacated by the retirement of John Lynch (New Jersey), John Lynch. Smith serves in the Senate on the Environment Committee (as Chair) and the Judiciary Committee. Early life Smith received a Bachelor of Arts, B.A. degree in 1969 from the University of Scranton in History, an M.S. in 1970 from the University of Scranton in Chemistry, an M.S. in 1973 from Rutgers University in Environmental Science and was awarded a Juris Doctor, J.D. in 1981 from the Seton Hall University School of Law. Gerald B. Green (April 16, 1939 – April 18, 2018) was an American Democratic politician, who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 1992 until his death, representing the 22nd Legislative District (from 2002 to 2018) and the 17th Legislative District (1992 to 2002). A general election was held in the U.S. state of New Jersey on November 7, 2017. Primary elections were held on June 6.
