Bob Preedy
Robert "Bob" Preedy is a broadcaster, a book author and was formerly a presenter on BBC Radio York and the chief continuity announcer for Yorkshire Television. Career Television After joining the BBC in London as a trainee cameraman in 1970, he later transferred to Yorkshire Television in Leeds. Here he also worked as a programme researcher and promotions producer. Radio Aire
Radio Aire was an Independent Local Radio station, serving Leeds and West Yorkshire. The station was merged and relaunched as Greatest Hits Radio Yorkshire, as part of a rebrand, on 1 September 2020. History Radio Aire was launched at 6am on 1 September 1981 by breakfast presenter Graham Thornton – the first song played on air was '' Pilot of the Airwaves'' by Charlie Dore. The station's first news bulletin was read by Christa Ackroyd and in November 1982, she became the UK's first female radio news editor. West Yorkshire
West Yorkshire is a metropolitan and ceremonial county in the Yorkshire and Humber Region of England. It is an inland and upland county having eastward-draining valleys while taking in the moors of the Pennines. Wetherby Film Theatre
Wetherby's Cinema, officially the Wetherby Film Theatre and formerly the Rodney Bingo Hall, Rodney Cinema and the Raby Picture House, is a cinema in Wetherby, West Yorkshire, England, that originally opened in April 1915. History In 1865, the site on Caxton Street was acquired by a consortium, headed by local entrepreneur Henry Crossley for £2000. In 1914, his son, George, started work redeveloping the residential cottages as a cinema, which was completed in 1915. Crossley sold the cinema that year to Raby Picture House Ltd, a Leeds based cinema operating company. The cinema then had a capacity of 260, which has since been reduced to 136. At the time of the cinema's opening, Wetherby lacked mains electricity and so a 400 volt gas-powered generator provided power. Johnnie Walker, MBE (born Peter Waters Dingley; 30 March 1945) is an English radio disc jockey and broadcaster. He began his career on pirate radio, most notably on Radio Caroline. He joined BBC Radio 1 in 1969. He joined BBC Radio 2 in 1998 and currently presents '' Sounds of the 70s'' on Sunday afternoons and ''The Radio 2 Rock Show'' on Friday nights. Radio Caroline North
Radio Caroline is a British radio station founded in 1964 by Ronan O'Rahilly and Alan Crawford initially to circumvent the record companies' control of popular music broadcasting in the United Kingdom and the BBC's radio broadcasting monopoly. Unlicensed by any government for most of its early life, it was a pirate radio station that never became illegal as such due to operating outside any national jurisdiction, although after the Marine Offences Act (1967) it became illegal for a British subject to associate with it. The Radio Caroline name was used to broadcast from international waters, using five different ships with three different owners, from 1964 to 1990, and via satellite from 1998 to 2013. Radio 270 was a pirate radio station serving Yorkshire and the North East of England from 1966 to 1967. It broadcast from a converted Dutch lugger called ''Oceaan 7'' positioned in international waters off Scarborough, North Yorkshire followed by a move to a more sheltered position off Bridlington. Origins In 1965 a group of Yorkshire businessmen formed a consortium to establish an offshore radio station to broadcast to the North East coast from a location off Scarborough. Wetherby
Wetherby () is a market town and civil parish in the City of Leeds district, West Yorkshire, England, close to West Yorkshire county's border with North Yorkshire, and lies approximately from Leeds City Centre, from York and from Harrogate. Tempo FM
Tempo FM is the local community radio station for Wetherby, Boston Spa, as well as the surrounding villages in the West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire areas. The radio station mainly plays easy listening music and is run entirely by volunteers as a "Not for Profit" company. Background The radio station was the idea of Bob Preedy who applied for the licence. With the help of a team of volunteers, it commenced broadcasting on 107.4 MHz on 11 September 2006 in Wetherby, West Yorkshire. The station plays easy listening music, during weekdays with specialist live and recorded programmes during the evenings. A wide range of music is played during the evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays presented by many local presenters.
