Bob McFarlane (footballer, Died 1898)
Robert McFarlane (c. 1866 – October 1898) was a Scottish footballer who played as a full-back. Born in Airdrie, McFarlane began his career with local side Airdrieonians, before moving to England to play for Bootle.Shury and Landamore (2005), p. 68. He was part of the Bootle side that took part in the inaugural season of the Football Alliance in 1889–90, helping them to second place behind The Wednesday. That summer, he joined Sunderland Albion, whom he also helped to a runners-up spot in 1890–91. He moved on to Newton Heath in 1891–92,Dykes (1994), pp. 239–40. where he took over as captain from the departing Jack Powell. Airdrie (; sco, Airdrie; gd, An t-Àrd Ruigh) is a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It lies on a plateau roughly 400 ft (130 m) above sea level, and is approximately 12 miles (19 km) east of Glasgow city centre. , the town had a population of around 37,130. Historically part of Lanarkshire, Airdrie forms part of a conurbation with its neighbour Coatbridge, in what is commonly known as the Monklands, formerly a district. The Scottish Football League (SFL) was a league featuring professional and semi-professional football clubs mostly from Scotland.One club, Berwick Rangers, is based in the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which is located approximately 4 km south of the Anglo-Scottish border. Joe Cassidy (footballer Born 1872)
Joseph Cassidy (born 30 July 1872) was a Scottish footballer who played as a forward. Born in Dalziel, Lanarkshire, Cassidy started his career with Motherwell Athletic before joining Blythe in 1890. In 1893, he was transferred to Newton Heath, where he played in the last four league games of the season, as well as a test match against Small Heath, in which he scored to keep Newton Heath in the First Division. After two months with the Heathens, he moved to Celtic. In 1895, he returned to Newton Heath, who had by now dropped into the Second Division. In seven seasons back with the club, Cassidy played 163 games and scored 99 goals. He went on to play for Manchester City and Middlesbrough. Roger Doughty (1868 – 19 December 1914) was a Welsh footballer who played as an outside left for Druids before joining Newton Heath in June 1886. He was part of the Heathens' team that joined the Football Alliance in 1889, but left in 1892. He returned for one season in 1896–97. Although he was born in Cannock Chase, Staffordshire, to an Irish father and a Welsh mother, Doughty played for the Welsh national team. He made his debut in a match against Ireland in March 1888, a match in which his brother Jack also played.
