The Conference League Cup (formerly known as the Setanta Sports, Setanta Shield for sponsorship reasons, and before that the Bob Lord (football chairman), Bob Lord Trophy) was a association football, football competition open to clubs playing in the Football Conference. History The competition was formed for the inaugural season of what was then called the Alliance Premier League, in 1979-80 in English football, 1979–80 and existed for twenty-two seasons before being axed at the end of the 2000-01 in English football, 2000–01 season. It was briefly reformed for the 2004-05 in English football, 2004–05 season, in the form of the Conference Challenge Cup, but following a poor response it was again agreed not to renew the competition for the next season. AFC Telford United
AFC Telford United is a football club based in Telford, Shropshire, England. The club was formed in 2004 after the original Telford United, founded in 1872, folded due to financial problems. Currently members of the National League North, they play home matches at the New Bucks Head in Wellington, part of the new town of Telford. The club's colours are white and black. History Telford United experienced severe financial difficulties towards the end of the 2003–04 season while playing in the Football Conference following the collapse of the Miras Contracts business of chairman and sole shareholder Andy Shaw. The club went into administration, and although supporters raised around £50,000 in two months, the club's debts totalled over £4 million, resulting in liquidation on 27 May 2004.
