Bob Lang
Robert McDonnell "Bob" Lang (October 1, 1892 – September 19, 1966) was a college football player. Early years Before attending Tech Lang went to the old South Georgia College in McRae. Georgia Tech Lang was a prominent guard for John Heisman's Georgia Tech Golden Tornado of the Georgia Institute of Technology, a member of its "All-Era" team under Heisman. 1915 The school's yearbook the Blue Print of 1915 describes Lang as "one of the biggest men on the varsity, not only in stature but in spirit as well." 1916 Lang was a starter for the 1916 Georgia Tech team which, as one writer wrote, "seemed to personify Heisman." 1916 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Football Team
The 1916 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team represented the Georgia Tech Golden Tornado of the Georgia Institute of Technology during the 1916 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. Georgia Tech was a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA). The Tornado was coached by John Heisman in his 13th year as head coach, compiling a record of 8–0–1 (5–0 SIAA) and outscoring opponents 421 to 20. Georgia Tech played its home games at Grant Field. One writer claimed the 1916 team "seemed to personify Heisman." This was the first team to vault Georgia Tech to national prominence. George Marshall "Pup" Phillips (September 24, 1895May 1, 1953) was an American football player and coach. Early years George Marshall Phillips was born on September 24, 1895 in Carnesville, Georgia to George Sullivan Phillips and Elizabeth Witaker Hunsinger. Walker Carpenter
Walker Glenn "Bill" "Big Six" Carpenter (June 3, 1893 – September 24, 1956) was an American football Tackle (American football), tackle for John Heisman's Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football, Georgia Tech Golden Tornado of the Georgia Institute of Technology. He and teammate Everett Strupper were the first players from the Deep South selected to an All-America team, in 1917 College Football All-America Team, 1917. Cumberland University
Cumberland University is a private university in Lebanon, Tennessee. It was founded in 1842. The campus's current historic buildings were constructed between 1892 and 1896. History 1842-1861 The university was founded by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1842 and received its Tennessee state charter in 1843. In 1847 Cumberland Presbyterian church leaders added a law school, the first in Tennessee and the first west of the Appalachian Mountains, and in 1854 a school of theology was begun. The original building, designed by Philadelphia architect William Strickland, housed schools of art, law and theology. Civil War The Civil War nearly destroyed Cumberland University.
