Australian Sailing Magazine
''Australian Sailing magazine'' (ASL) was published by Yaffa Publishing Group, an independent publisher headquartered in Surry Hills (NSW). Founded in 1976, it was Australia's only dedicated yacht racing magazine. Overview The readership included owners and crew of the 100 ft maxis, keelboat racers, dinghy and sailboard racers. History Australian Sailing was founded by Bob Ross and Ken McLachlan in September 1976. Ross came from a newspaper background and entered boating journalism via Modern Boating magazine. McLachlan was an advertising salesman. A New Zealander by birth, Ross spent his early years in the Finn dinghy, in which he competed for Olympic selection in 1964 and 1968. He also raced competitively in J24s and offshore events including the Sydney-Hobart, winning the 1986 Sydney-Mooloolaba race as co-helmsman aboard Nuzulu. ''On The Water'' is a monthly American fishing and boating magazine, covering both freshwater and saltwater topics. The majority of its articles are submitted by freelance authors, usually local fishermen and charter-boat captains. ''On the Water'' publishes three versions of the magazine, a New England edition a New York edition and a New Jersey edition. History First published in May 1996, ''On The Water'' began as a local black and white magazine covering fishing and boating on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. With a growing audience, the magazine expanded regionally to offer coverage for all of New England in 1998; taking on the subtitle "The Angler's Guide to New England" to reflect the change. ''Yachting'' is a monthly English-language magazine published since 1907. It was founded by Oswald Garrison Villard, publisher of the ''New York Evening Post'' and ''The Nation''. Early history On January 1, 1907, publisher Oswald Garrison Villard released the first issue of ''Yachting''. A year later he appointed his “schoolmate and lifelong friend”, 37-year-old Herbert L. Stone, as the magazine's second editor. Stone continued as the editor through a series of ownership changes, except for a brief period during World War I when Stone went to war and Wililam Atkin took over. In 1920 Herbert Stone, Albert Britt and William A. Miles purchased the magazine from Mr. Villard, and sold it to John Clarke Kennedy a few years later. In 1938 Stone and some friends assembled the Yachting Publishing Company, and took on the role of president, publisher, and editor. ''Yaahting: A Parody'' was a 1984 parody of the boating magazine genre, most notably ''Yachting''. It was published by Dreadnaught Publishing, a short lived Massachusetts based company. ''Lakeland Boating'' is a regional magazine that ships eleven times a year and covers the interests of freshwater boaters on the Great Lakes and connecting waterways and inland lakes as far south as Tennessee, as far north as Lake Superior, as far west as Minnesota, and as far east as Quebec. History The Sea Toy II Before founding ''Lakeland Boating'', then called ''Lakeland Yachting and Motorboating'', Vic Schoen was an avid boater.
