Board Of Pharmacy Specialties
The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) was established in 1976 and is an independent division of the American Pharmacists Association that grants recognition within the United States to appropriate pharmacy practice specialities and establishes standards for certification of pharmacists in 14 specialities. The specialty examinations are accredited by National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), the accreditation body of Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE). The Executive Director of the BPS is William M. Ellis. Institute For Credentialing Excellence
The Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE) is one of the two main U.S. organizations that accredit personnel certifications or certificates. In November 2009 the ICE formally changed its name from the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA). The ICE is an accredited standards developer by the American National Standards Institute. History In cooperation with the federal government, the National Commission for Health Certifying Agencies (NCHCA) was founded in 1977 in order to develop standards for voluntary certification programs. Commission For Certification In Geriatric Pharmacy
The Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy (CCGP) is a non-profit organization which has established a voluntary professional certification program for pharmacists. Pharmacists must pass a written examination to become certified and must re-certify every five years. Candidates are expected to be knowledgeable about principles of geriatric pharmacotherapy and the provision of pharmaceutical care to the elderly. A pharmacist who is certified in geriatric pharmacy practice is designated as a "Certified Geriatric Pharmacist," and may use the acronym "CGP" as a suffix to their personal name. CCGP was founded in 1997 by the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists and R. Tim Webster, and it is based in Alexandria, Virginia.
