Bo Koster
Bo Koster (born August 22, 1974) is an American keyboardist and record producer. He is best known for his work as a member of the band My Morning Jacket and as a touring musician with Roger Waters and Ray LaMontagne. Early life Koster grew up in Lakewood, Ohio, a city in the Greater Cleveland Metropolitan Area. He attended Lakewood High School, Cleveland Institute of Music and Berklee College of Music. Career My Morning Jacket In 2003, Koster became a member of the band My Morning Jacket. The band's sound, rooted in rock, alternative, and alt-country, is often experimental and psychedelic. The group amassed a large following beginning in the early 2000s, in part due to their powerful live performances. In 2005, their album Z was universally acclaimed as one of the best albums of that year. The band has also been nominated for a Grammy three times in the Best Alternative Music Album category. Forecastle Bo
The forecastle ( ; contracted as fo'c'sle or fo'c's'le) is the upper deck of a sailing ship forward of the foremast, or, historically, the forward part of a ship with the sailors' living quarters. Related to the latter meaning is the phrase " before the mast" which denotes anything related to ordinary sailors, as opposed to a ship's officers. History and design In medieval shipbuilding, a ship of war was usually equipped with a tall, multi-deck castle-like structure in the bow of the ship. It served as a platform for archers to shoot down on enemy ships, or as a defensive stronghold if the ship were boarded. A similar but usually much larger structure, called the aftcastle, was at the aft end of the ship, often stretching all the way from the main mast to the stern. ''Z'' is the fourth studio album by psychedelic rock band My Morning Jacket. This collection features a much spacier and more polished sound than previous releases, making heavy use of synthesizers throughout and incorporating reggae and dub influences. The heavy reverb that was a defining characteristic of the band's prior recordings is largely absent. The songs on the album are more focused and shorter compared to the band's previous albums. A double-live album, ''Okonokos'', was recorded at the end of the Z Tour and was released on September 26, 2006; it features live versions of eight of ''Zs 10 songs. ''The WaterfallII'' is the eighth studio album by American rock band My Morning Jacket, released on July 10, 2020. Made up of recordings made in 2013 that also produced the 2015 release '' The Waterfall'', this psychedelic pop work has received positive reviews from critics. Recording and release The album is made up of outtake recordings from the band's 2015 release '' The Waterfall'', which vocalist Jim James reviewed during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, James mentioned that My Morning Jacket had enough material for a second album but the material was unrelated to ''The Waterfall''; he indicated that they would release the next album swiftly but they only put out occasional singles until 2020. ''The Waterfall'' is the seventh studio album by American rock band My Morning Jacket. Produced by Tucker Martine and group frontman Jim James, the album was released on May 4, 2015 by ATO Records and Capitol Records. After touring 2011’s '' Circuital'' (2011), for two years the band took a break before regrouping in late 2013 to begin work on ''The Waterfall'', a process which took eighteen months. Much of ''The Waterfall'' was recorded at a hilltop studio located Stinson Beach, California, where the band rented seaside homes while recording. Many elements of the album—from its tone to the album art—are heavily indebted to the area and its nature. James mostly brought unfinished lyrics to the group to create a spontaneous development process. In addition, he suffered a back injury during the sessions that hindered its production. ''Circuital'' is the sixth studio album by American rock band My Morning Jacket. It was released on May 31, 2011. The album received mainly positive reviews and sold 55,000 copies in the first week of release. It debuted at number 5 on the ''Billboard'' 200, improving on the band's previous highest debuting album ''Evil Urges'', which entered the chart at number 9. This album peaked #1 on the independent albums chart,#3 on the rock albums, and #3 on the alternative albums charts. The album has sold 208,000 copies in the US as of April 2015. ''Evil Urges'' is the fifth studio album by My Morning Jacket. It was released by ATO Records on June 10, 2008. The album was nominated for the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album, ultimately losing to Radiohead's ''In Rainbows''. Writing and recording Writing began in Colorado, while recording was done in Manhattan. According to producer Joe Chiccarelli, the demos he was sent, which were "very groove-oriented with hints of old-fashioned R&B", suggested a more urban record than previous albums, and as such he recommended the band record in an urban environment that had some "life and vitality". After looking into various options including Vancouver and San Francisco, the band eventually decided to record in New York. Singer and lead songwriter Jim James said that the band wanted to get away from "normal rock and roll sounds" and emulate more of the band's live sound.
