Blüthner Orchestra
The Blüthner Orchestra was a German symphony orchestra based in Berlin. Founded in 1907, it operated until 1925 when it was absorbed into the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra specialised in engaging young players. Its first leader (concertmaster) was the 21-year-old Louis Persinger, afterwards one of Yehudi Menuhin's teachers, and some years later the future conductor Eugene Ormandy (then known as Jenö Blau) held the same post at the age of 18; in 1917 he appeared with the orchestra as conductor on a tour in Hungary. Another conductor, the contemporary-music specialist Hermann Scherchen, played among the violas of the orchestra while still in his teens. (; ''The Valkyrie''), WWV 86B, is the second of the four music dramas that constitute Richard Wagner's ''Der Ring des Nibelungen'' (English: ''The Ring of the Nibelung''). It was performed, as a single opera, at the National Theatre Munich on 26 June 1870, and received its first performance as part of the ''Ring'' cycle at the Bayreuth Festspielhaus on 14 August 1876. As the ''Ring'' cycle was conceived by Wagner in reverse order of performance, ''Die Walküre'' was the third of the four texts to be written, although Wagner composed the music in performance sequence. Paul Scheinpflug
Paul Scheinpflug (10 September 1875 near Dresden – 11 March 1937) was a German conductor and composer. Born in Loschwitz, Scheinpflug studied at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden from 1890 to 1894, among others with Felix Draeseke. After a short stay in 1897/1898 as a private tutor in Kiev, he moved to Bremen in 1898, where he worked as concert master of the Philharmonic Orchestra and director of several choirs. From 1909 to 1914 he was conductor of the Musikverein in Königsberg and from 1914 to 1920 conductor of the Blüthner Orchestra in Berlin. From 1920 to 1928 he was General Music Director of the Duisburg Philharmonic and from 1929 to 1932 Chief Conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic. After that he often travelled to the countries of Northern and Eastern Europe as a guest conductor. Rosa Luxemburg (; ; pl, Róża Luksemburg or ; 5 March 1871 – 15 January 1919) was a Polish and naturalised-German revolutionary socialist, Marxist philosopher and anti-war activist. Successively, she was a member of the Proletariat party, the Social Democracy of the Kingdom of Poland and Lithuania (SDKPiL), the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), the Independent Social Democratic Party (USPD), the Spartacus League (), and the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). Born and raised in an assimilated Jewish family in Poland, she became a German citizen in 1897. After the SPD supported German involvement in World War I in 1915, Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht co-founded the anti-war Spartacus League () which eventually became the KPD. Karl Liebknecht
Karl Paul August Friedrich Liebknecht (; 13 August 1871 – 15 January 1919) was a German socialist and anti-militarist. A member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) beginning in 1900, he was one of its deputies in the Reichstag from 1912 to 1916, where he represented the left-revolutionary wing of the party. In 1916 he was expelled from the SPD's parliamentary group for his opposition to the political truce between all parties in the Reichstag while the war lasted. He twice spent time in prison, first for writing an anti-militarism pamphlet in 1907 and then for his role in a 1916 antiwar demonstration. He was released from the second under a general amnesty three weeks before the end of the First World War. During the November Revolution that broke out across Germany in the final days of the war, Liebknecht proclaimed Germany a "Free Socialist Republic" from the Berlin Palace on 9 November 1918. Erna Denera
Erna Denera (4 September 1881 – 16 March 1938) was a German operatic soprano and voice teacher. She was a member of the Berliner Hofoper (Berlin Royal Opera), from 1908 to 1921 and was awarded the title Kammersängerin. Denera was born in Murowana-Goslin, Province of Posen, Prussia (Murowana Goślina, Poland), she died in Berlin at age 56. Her body rests at the Stahnsdorf South-Western Cemetery near Berlin. (''The Ring of the Nibelung''), WWV 86, is a cycle of four German-language epic music dramas composed by Richard Wagner. The works are based loosely on characters from Germanic heroic legend, namely Norse legendary sagas and the ''Nibelungenlied''. The composer termed the cycle a "Bühnenfestspiel" (stage festival play), structured in three days preceded by a ("preliminary evening").
