Ooberman
Ooberman are an English band with strong indie, folk and progressive influences first formed in 1997. They split up in 2003, shortly after the release of their second album '' Hey Petrunko'', but announced their reformation in April 2006 and began releasing music again soon thereafter. History Early years Ooberman founders Dan Popplewell and Andy Flett met over a piano at their school in Bradford, 1988. The first band they set up was The Forestry Commission, with Flett's younger brother, Steve on bass guitar. The band's life soon ended when Popplewell moved to Liverpool, but the three friends kept in touch. Steve Flett moved to Liverpool in 1992, and Andy Flett later joined him in 1996/7, after commuting back and forth from Birmingham where he was studying. Ooberman was then born, complete with Alan Kelly (Drums) and last member Sophia Churney (keyboards and vocals). Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. Pop Rock

Running Girl
''Running Girl'' is a mini-album by Ooberman, released in October 2001 on the band's own Rotodisc label. A single of the title track was released in November 2001. The title track was also featured in slightly remixed form on the band's '' Hey Petrunko'' album. Aside from "The Kitchen Fire" (co-written by Dan Popplewell and Sophia Churney) all the tracks on the album were written singly by either singer Dan Popplewell or guitarist Andy Flett. This was a marked departure from the collaborative nature of their earlier work. March Records released the album in the USA with two bonus tracks - earlier single " Dolphin Blue" and a remix of the title track. A version of the album was released in Japan by Rotodisc with the bonus track "Behind My Shield". ''Hey Petrunko'' is the second album by Ooberman, released in March 2003 on the band's own Rotodisc label. It was recorded and produced by the band. Three singles were released in support of the album - ''Running Girl'', ''Beany Bean'' (not featured on the album itself) and ''First Day of The Holidays''. In addition, a mini-album with ''Running Girl'' as the lead track, and an EP centering on ''Bluebell Morning'' were released. ''Where Did I Go Wrong?'' was issued as a single under the pseudonym The Sentinels, retitled ''Memoirs of a Cunt''.
