Caulfield Racecourse
Caulfield Racecourse Reserve is located nine kilometres from the Melbourne CBD, on the boundary of Caulfield and Caulfield East in Melbourne's south eastern suburbs. Lyre (foaled 25 September 2016) is a Thoroughbred racehorse trained and bred in Australia. She has won a Group One race, and over a million dollars. Career A Godolphin-owned and -bred horse, Lyre was one of six yearlings that was placed with Anthony Freedman rather than the usual stable of James Cummings, and the first of them to race. Lyre made her debut at Caulfield on New Years Day 2019, finishing 5th. On 20 January, she had her first win in a maiden at Sale. Manikato
Manikato (1975–1984) was a champion Australian Thoroughbred racehorse of the late 1970s and early 1980s. He established new track records in three races and was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame. Manikato was the second Australian horse, after Kingston Town, to win $1 million in stakes, and, by today's standards, won 20 races which are currently (2012) classed as Group One (G1) races. He was a tall, heavily topped chestnut gelding by the VRC Newmarket Handicap winner Manihi from Markato by Natural Bid (USA). Markato was the dam of eight named foals, but Manikato was her only stakes-winner. Redoute's Choice (15 August 1996 – 26 March 2019) was a multiple Group One-winning Australian Thoroughbred racehorse and also a champion sire. He is by the phenomenal international sire Danehill (USA) out of the lightly raced mare Shantha's Choice (Canny Lad-Dancing Show). His dam is a half-sister to the Group One winners Hurricane Sky (by Star Watch) and Umatilla (by Miswaki (USA)), and later produced the Group One winners Platinum Scissors (also by Danehill) and Manhattan Rain (by Encosta De Lago). Alinghi (20 August 2001 – 23 October 2017) was an Australian Thoroughbred racemare who won four Group One races, including the Newmarket Handicap, and earned A$4,161,740 in total prize money. She was by the leading sire, Encosta De Lago from Oceanfast by Monde Bleu (GB). Oceanfast's racing record was 12 starts for 2 wins, 3 seconds and 3 thirds for $82,760 and Alinghi is her only stakes winner until July 2009. Alinghi was trained by Lee Freedman. She is one of the few fillies to win the Newmarket Handicap as a three-year-old. The time-honoured Newmarket Handicap is one of the best sprint race in Australia. Extreme Choice (foaled 6 September 2013) is a retired Thoroughbred racehorse and active sire trained and bred in Australia. He won the Blue Diamond Stakes and the A J Moir Stakes, Group One races. He amassed over a million dollars in winnings. Racing career On 12 December 2015, Extreme Choice made his debut in the $500,000 Inglis Nursery, which horses that were sold at The Inglis Yearling Sales are eligible to enter. The horse won, but had to trial 4 days before the race to qualify. Tagaloa (foaled 9 September 2017) is a Group 1 winning Australian thoroughbred racehorse. Background Bred by Arrowfield Stud, Tagaloa is a product of two of Japan’s greatest living stallions. He was sired by Japan’s most expensive stallion, Lord Kanaloa and is out of a daughter by Sunday Silence’s champion son Heart's Cry. Tagaloa was purchased by Busuttin Racing for $300,000 out of the Arrowfield Stud draft at the 2019 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
