Blossom Time (1934 Film)
''Blossom Time'' is a 1934 British musical drama film directed by Paul L. Stein and starring Richard Tauber, Jane Baxter and Carl Esmond. It was based on the opera ''Blossom Time (operetta), Blossom Time'' by Heinrich Berté. In nineteenth century Vienna, composer Franz Schubert assists a girl with whom he is secretly in love. The film had a London midnight premiere on 10 July 1934, a trade/press showing in Nottingham on 25 July, and opened to the public on 24 August at the Regal Cinema, Marble Arch, where it ran for seven weeks. The Vienna premiere was at the 'Apollo' on 20 November 1934. Cecil Beresford Ramage, MC (17 January 1895 – 22 February 1988) was a Scottish barrister, actor and Liberal politician. Life Following his education at the Edinburgh Academy, Ramage was commissioned as an officer in the Royal Scots at the outbreak of World War I. Frederick Lloyd (15 January 1880 – 24 November 1949) was a British film and stage actor. His most notable appearances include Doctor Watson in the 1932 film ''The Hound of the Baskervilles'' and Mr. Grimwig in David Lean's 1948 literature adaption ''Oliver Twist'' . Ivan Samson (28 August 1894 – 1 May 1963) was a British stage, film and television actor. Samson appeared regularly in West End plays and from 1920 began appearing in British silent films. Gibb McLaughlin
George McLoughlin (19 July 1879 – 30 June 1961), known professionally as Gibb McLaughlin, was an English film and stage actor. Early days McLaughlin was born in Sunderland, County Durham, England in 1879. For about 10 years he was a salesman in Kingston-upon-Hull where he sang in the Holy Trinity Church choir. He joined the Hull Amateur Operatic Society and played the part of Koko in The Mikado. After that he appeared with Anne Croft in concerts and they had a turn to themselves on the stage of the Palace Theatre. He performed as a comedian and monologist in music halls. Schwind's genius was lyrical—he drew inspiration from chivalry, folklore, and the songs of the people. Schwind died in Pöcking in Bavaria, and was buried in the Alter Südfriedhof in Munich. Arthur Lester Matthews (6 June 1900 – 5 June 1975) was an English actor. In his career, the handsome Englishman made more than 180 appearances in film and on television. He was erroneously credited in later years as Les Matthews. Matthews played supporting roles in films like ''The Raven'' and ''Werewolf of London'' (both 1935), but his career deteriorated into bit parts. Johann Mayrhofer
Johann Baptist Mayrhofer (22 October 17875 February 1836) was an Austrian poet and librettist. He is best known for his close friendship with the composer Franz Schubert. Biography Mayrhofer was born in Steyr, educated at Novitiate in St. Florian's Priory Upper Austria. In 1810 he began to study jurisprudence and theology at the University of Vienna, both of which courses he finished. He worked as a censor at the Zentral-Bücher-Revisions-Amt in Vienna. In 1814 he met the young composer Franz Schubert and his friends (Joseph von Spaun, Franz von Schober). From 1818-1821 he lived with Schubert in a one-room apartment in a house on Wipplingerstrasse 4. Edward Chapman (13 October 1901 – 9 August 1977) was an English actor who starred in many films and television programmes, but is chiefly remembered as "Mr. William Grimsdale", the officious superior and comic foil to Norman Wisdom's character of Pitkin in many of his films from the late 1950s and 1960s.
