''Blood Warrior'', known in Japan as , is a 1993 in video gaming, 1993 Fighting game, fighting arcade game developed by Atop and published by Kaneko. It is the successor to the 1992 fighting arcade game, ''Shogun Warriors (video game), Shogun Warriors'', also developed by Atop and published by Kaneko. Unlike ''Shogun Warriors'', ''Blood Warrior'' uses Digitization, digitized images of real actors within the game instead of traditionally drawn sprites, and its addition of blood and gore draws similarities to Midway Games, Midway's ''Mortal Kombat'' franchise. is a Japanese cant term for . In popular culture, it is often used for female shinobi or practitioner of ninjutsu (''ninpo''). The term was largely popularized by novelist Yamada Futaro in his novel ''Ninpō Hakkenden'' (忍法八犬伝) in 1964. Gameplay The controls of the game are similar to that of SNK's earlier installments in their ''Fatal Fury'' series (particularly ''Fatal Fury 2'', ''Special'' and '' 3''), as well as ''The King of Fighters'' franchise. The special actions are also similar to other fighting games from the same era. Ishikawa Goemon
was a legendary Japanese outlaw hero who stole gold and other valuables to give to the poor. He and his son were boiled alive in public after their failed assassination attempt on the Sengoku period warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi. His legend lives on in contemporary Japanese popular culture, often giving him greatly exaggerated ninja skills. Biography There is little historical information on Goemon's life, and as he has become a folk hero, his background and origins have been widely speculated upon. In his first appearance in the historical annals, in the 1642 biography of Hideyoshi, Goemon was referred to simply as a thief. As his legend became popular, various anti-authoritarian exploits were attributed to him, including a supposed assassination attempt against the Oda clan warlord Oda Nobunaga.
